MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Before any maintenance or cleaning work, lay the hedge
trimmer down on a level surface, switch off the engine
and remove the spark plug cap from the spark plug.
Never touch the exhaust, spark plug, or other metal
parts of the engine while the engine is running or
immediately after turning off the engine. Doing so can lead to
severe burns or electric shock.
Blade
Check the blade condition and bolts for gaps, cracks or other
damage.
Check the cutting edges and sharpen with a flat file. Warning:
▪ Keep the final edge sharp;
▪ Round the final end;
▪ Do not use water when sharpening.
You don't need to adjust the gap between the upper and lower
blade as this appliance was designed to have the correct gap.
When assembling the blade, make sure you tighten the spacer,
washer and bolt, then tighten the nut.
Sharpening the blade
Always keep the file or sharpener at a 45° angle to the blade and
always sharpen in the direction of the cutting edge.
Files sharpen in one direction only; lift the file off the
blade and do it again.
▪ Remove all debris from the edge of the blade with a smooth
sharpening stone;
▪ Try not to damage the blade too much;
▪ Before reinstalling the blade, apply grease;
▪ Do not attempt to sharpen a damaged blade: replace it or
return it to the dealer.

Air filter cleaning
Dirty air filters reduce engine power, increase fuel consumption
and make start-ups more difficult.
Remove the filter. The filter can be opened in two halves. It can
be cleaned with a brush, washed with petrol or with
compressed air (blown from the inside out).
The use of a dirty filter will restrict the air flow in the carburettor
affecting the performance of the hedge trimmer.
Checking and changing the spark plug
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug should be
clean and with adequate gap between the electrodes.
There are several factors that can affect the operation of the
spark plug: incorrect carburettor adjustment and fuel mixture,
and dirty air filter. These factors cause particles accumulations
in the spark plug electrodes, which leads to operating problems
and difficult start-ups.
If the hedge trimmer is running low or shows difficulties in
starting, check the spark plug condition before making any
further inspections.
1. Remove the spark plug cap, unscrew the spark plug and
check that it is clean. If dirty, clean the soot with a brush;
2. If the spark plug is "wet", with excess fuel, place a clean cloth
over the spark plug hole and pull the recoil starter several
times without the spark plug installed;
3. Measure the distance between the electrodes with
appropriate tools. The distance should be between 0.6-0.7
mm. If necessary, bend the electrode until enough clearance
is reached;
4. Install the spark plug with your hand to prevent damage to
the thread and tighten it to compress the sealing washer,
using the wrench provided;
5. If the spark plug does not produce any sparks, replace it;
A loose spark plug may overheat and cause damage to the
engine.
Always use the type of spark plug recommended by the
manufacturer (VIVELA5510). The use of an incorrect spark
plug can damage the cylinder.
