Before first use, read and follow the user manual, especially the safety instructions and warnings. The
product must only be used by appropriate workers who have been trained.
National directives and safety regulations must be complied with. The German regulations BGV D8
(hoisting, lifting and winching equipment) and BGV D27 (industrial trucks) must be observed.
2. Safety instructions
This equipment can only be used safely if you read this user manual carefully and strictly follow the in-
structions it contains.
General:
Follow the instructions for the forklift.
Only transport suitable, clean, undamaged drums.
Attaching the drum clamp / Adjusting the gripper / Picking up and setting down
drums:
Warning! Danger of crushing between the forklift and the equipment or between the
equipment and immovable barriers.
Make sure you are using a suitable drum. It must be clean and undamaged. Check
the edge of the drum in particular.
Transport:
Never drive the forklift without ensuring the chain is fastened.
Keep your speed suitable for the condition of the ground or floor.
Do not exceed walking speed.
In Ex zones, keep to a speed of less than 1 m/s to avoid a build up of sparks.
brake suddenly, turn quickly on the spot or drive over uneven ground as this can lead
to the drum being dropped.
Additional notes for use in Ex zones
Remove the packaging only in an area which is not defined as an Ex zone.
During the handling, storage and dispensing of substances which can create an explosive atmos-
phere, the requirements of ATEX Directives 94/9/EC and 1999/92/EC must be observed in addi-
tion to the 11th Machinery Safety Law (GSGV) and the Industrial Safety Regulations (BetrSichV).
Depending on the Ex-zone, suitable protective measures are to be taken.
Emphasis must be laid on preventing a build-up of explosive atmosphere by altering the concen-
tration (eg ensuring sufficient ventilation), operating conditions, and facilities organisation (eg us-
ing suitable and approved containers, suitable storage facilities).
It must be ensured that sources of ignition caused by electrostatic charges are avoided by using
electrical equipotential bonding. Mechanically produced sparks must be avoided by using suitable
tooling, transport and loading equipment for example. Sources of thermal ignition must be avoided
by using suitable techniques, prevention of friction, lightening protection, and the prohibition of
open flames, open lights and smoking. Organisational measures such as the identification of are-
as, implementation of warning signs and access prevention for unauthorised personnel are re-
quired.
