10. TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
THE MOTOR WILL NOT START
THE MOTOR RUNS BUT WATER
IS NOT DELIVERED
THE PUMP OPERATES BUT
LOSES PRIME
SOLUTION
Main line switch or pump switch may be shut off.
Power may have failed or may be temporarily discontinued.
The fuse may be blown or the breaker may be tripped.
Make sure the motor shaft turns freely.
Check for defective wiring or loose connections.
Check for possible defective motor or pressure switch.
If the motor does not operate properly, remove it and take it to the nearest authorized
motor service station.
Make sure the foot valve is sufficiently submerged but is not in sand or mud at the
bottom of the well, also make sure the screen on the foot valve is clear.
Make sure the pump is sufficiently primed.
Check for possible leaks in suction piping, foot valve, or air volume control connection.
If a drive point is used, check for clogged point.
The impeller, jet fitting, or foot valve may be clogged with sand or other obstruction.
The regulating valve may be improperly adjusted.
Check for the possibility of gas in the well.
Total suction lift may be beyond that recommended for jet fitting.
Make sure the motor is wired for proper rotation. Also, check for lower voltage or
inadequate wire size.
Check for possible leaks in the suction pipe, foot valve, or air volume control connections.
Water may be drawing down below the foot valve, causing the pump to take excessive air.
If a deep well installation is applied, regulating valve may be set for insufficient pressure
to operate the jet.
If a single pipe installation is applied, water may be leaking between the packer assembly
and the well casing.
Water may be leaking back into the soil through worn-out or defective well casing.
