Translation of the original installation instructions for MVS 6
Translation of the original install-
ation instructions for MVS 6
Preface
The unit is manufactured in accordance with the
ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and is suitable for
areas subject to explosion hazards.
Before installing and using the units for the
first time, read these instructions carefully
and follow the directions they contain.
The warnings provided indicate hazardous situ-
ations which will result/could result in death or
serious injury (DANGER/WARNING) or minor in-
jury (CAUTION) if not avoided. ATTENTION in-
dicates potential damage to the product or its sur-
roundings. Keep the instructions safe for use later
on.
1 Scope of delivery
Motor protection switch and these installation in-
structions.
2 Qualification of installation,
cleaning and maintenance staff
Installation, commissioning, cleaning and main-
tenance may only be undertaken by qualified
electricians trained and authorised in explo-
sion protection in accordance with Directive
1999/92/EC, Appendix II 2.8. These are qualified
persons in accordance with the above-mentioned
directive, that are also trained as qualified electri-
cians. Further provisions of other national laws
must be taken into account.
3 Intended use
Unit manufactured in accordance with Direct-
ive 2014/34/EU
The MVS 6 PTC thermistor triggering system is a
safety, monitoring and control device according to
Art. 1 (2) of Directive 2014/34/EU for equipment
and protective systems in potentially explosive at-
mospheres. The triggering system must be fit-
ted outside the potentially explosive atmo-
sphere. Our EU declaration of conformity is en-
closed with these instructions.
Application areas
The triggering system is used for temperature
monitoring of three-phase AC motors, intended
for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and
classified in group II, categories 2 G or 2 D. The
system is also suitable for protecting other three-
phase devices from excessive temperatures,
provided these devices are equipped with PTC
thermistors and have similar switching behaviour
to three-phase AC motors. The correct selection
of the protective system for the intended use is
the responsibility of the operating company.
The MVS 6 system is also used to switch the con-
nected motor on and off during operation. The
switch on the front of the housing can be locked
in the "off" position using a padlock.
4 Non-intended use
The unit does not serve:
• as current-dependent, time-delayed overload
protection.
• to detect a failure of a single mains phase. An
exception is the interruption of phase L1, be-
cause the thermistor triggering device is con-
nected to L1 and N.
5 Safety instructions for users
DANGER Risk of explosion if operated
outside of the ambient and operating condi-
tions.
There is a risk of functional impairment, due to
overheating of the unit during operation outside
the permissible operating temperature.
Thus, the protective function would no longer be
sufficiently guaranteed.
Only operate unit within the permitted ambient
and operating conditions and permitted usage
temperature.
DANGER Explosion hazard due to unau-
thorised conversions on unit, incorrect in-
stallation or damaged components.
Danger if installation or modification work is car-
ried out by unqualified staff.
Operation not permitted if unit is modified, install-
ation is incorrect or components are damaged.
Unit is not approved if installation work is carried
out by possibly unqualified staff.
CAUTION Risk of cuts from metal hous-
ing parts with sharp edges.
Wear personal protective equipment (cut-resist-
ant gloves) for installation.
