3. Personal safety
a) Pay attention, watch what you are doing, and be sensible while working with an
electric appliance. Do not use the electric appliance when you are tired or under the
influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A short lapse in attention while using an
electric appliance can lead to serious injury.
b) Use protective gear. Always wear eye protection. Proper use of protective equipment
such as a dust protection mask, anti-slip shoes, helmet, and in protection prevents the risk of
injury.
c) Make sure that the electric appliance cannot be switched on inadvertently, and that
the switch is in the "off" position when you pull the plug from the mains. Carrying an
electric device connected to the mains with your finger on the on/off switch, or plugging the
appliance into the mains with the switch on the "on" position can lead to accidents.
d) Remove adjustment spanners and chuck keys before you switch on the electric
appliance. Leaving a chuck key or a spanner in a turning part of the tool can lead to
accidents.
e) Do not take an unnatural posture. Make sure that you are standing firmly and keep
your balance at all times. This will help you keep control of the appliance in unexpected
situations.
f) Wear appropriate work clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your
hair, clothes, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewellery, or long hair
can become caught up in moving parts.
g) If your electric appliance is equipped with dust vacuum or dust-collection equipment,
make sure that this is properly connected and used. The use of such equipment can
avoid hazards that develop when dust accumulates.
4. Use and care of electric appliances
a) Do not overburden your electric appliance. Use the right tools for the application
intended. The right tool will work better and more safely in the given range of performance.
b) Do not use the electric appliance if you cannot switch it on and off using the main
switch. Any electric appliance that cannot be controlled using its main switch is dangerous
and has to be repaired.
c) Unplug the appliance before you make any adjustments to it, change any of the
accessories, or put the appliance into store. This will prevent the electric appliance from
being switched on inadvertently.
d) Keep unused electric appliances out of children's reach. Do not allow persons
unfamiliar with the electric appliance or the safety instructions to use the electric
appliance. Electric appliances in the hands of unauthorised or unsuitable persons are
dangerous.
e) Treat the electric appliance with care. Check the adjustment and fit of all moving
parts, and check all components for damage or other conditions that may impair the
correct operation of the electric appliance. Have a damaged appliance repaired before
you use it again. Many accidents are caused by electric appliances that have not been
properly maintained.
f) Keep cutting attachments sharp and clean. With proper care, cutting attachments with
sharp edges will not become jammed in the workpiece and will keep the machine easier to
control.
