MAINTENANCE
Lubrication
See Figures 12 - 13.
The items listed below need regular lubrication to maximize
the performance of this product. The time interval shown is
the maximum amount of time before the service must be
performed. Your operating conditions may require the item
to be serviced earlier.
Performing this service will require RED ARMOR™
LUBRICANT grease or another commercially available lithium-
base grease, along with common hand tools.
Drive Shaft (Every 50 hours of use):
Remove the center locating screw, washer, and lock
washer from the top of the gear head.
Remove the hex head bolts, flat washers, and D-washers
from the gear head.
Remove the gear head from the drive shaft.
Pull the flexible cable from the drive shaft housing.
Wipe the flexible cable clean and recoat with a thin coat-
ing of grease. Do not allow dirt to get on the cable.
Reinstall the flexible cable inside the drive shaft housing.
Reinstall the gear head on the drive shaft. Make sure the
opening on the drive shaft aligns with the center locating
screw opening on the gear head.
Reinstall the center locating screw with washers.
Reinstall the D-washers, and hex head bolts with wash-
ers. Tighten securely.
Gear Housing (Every 25 hours of use):
Clean all loose debris from the gear head.
Remove the grease plug by rotating counterclockwise.
Check the level of grease present. Grease should fill the
gear case and be visible at the bottom of the grease plug
hole.
If necessary, add grease using a manual grease gun or
squeeze tube just until it reaches the bottom of the grease
plug hole. DO NOT OVERFILL.
Reinstall the grease plug and tighten securely.
Replacing the Debris Shield
See Figure 14.
The line cut-off blade on the debris shield is sharp. Avoid
contact with the blade. Failure to avoid contact can
result in serious personal injury.
Replace the debris shield if it becomes cracked or visibly
damaged.
Stop the unit and remove the battery pack.
Remove the string head as described previously.
Remove the screws and shield plate securing the debris
shield to the gear head.
Install the new debris shield onto the gear head.
Reinstall the shield plate onto the debris shield.
Reinstall screws and tighten securely.
Reinstall string head and tighten securely.
Attaching the Storage Hanger
See Figure 15.
Insert the small end of the storage hook into the hole in
the attachment shaft.
Slide the cap over the other end of the storage hook and
seat securely over the attachment shaft.
Storing the Attachment
Store the attachment in a well-ventilated place that is
inaccessible to children.
Keep away from corrosive agents such as garden chemi-
cals and deicing salts.
