Back-up mode
General informa-
Backup mode is intended exclusively for relieving the battery during a vehicle diagnosis or
tion
software update. The power used over an extended period of time must be less than the
charger's maximum output current, otherwise the battery will be discharged. Backup mode
is not suitable for fully charging the battery.

The charger automatically recognises the connected battery and starts the charging pro-
cess after approximately 5 seconds.
If the device remains in standby when the battery is connected, then the battery is in a state
of extreme deep discharge (< 2 V).
In both cases, it is advisable to use Pb Refresh mode to reactivate deep-discharged bat-
teries. For more information, see the "Pb Refresh mode" section. After successfully using
Pb Refresh mode, Backup mode can be repeated.
WARNING! Risk of serious injury and damage from incorrect settings or a defec-
tive battery. Before beginning the back-up process, ensure that the settings on
the charger for the battery to be charged are correct and that the battery is func-
tioning properly.
Plug in charger mains plug
Select Backup Mode using the up/down keys.

Connect the battery - the de-energised charging leads mean there are no sparks when
connecting to the battery, even if the charger is already connected to the mains supply.
-
Connect the red charging lead to the positive pole (+) of the battery
-
Connect the black charging lead to the negative pole (-) of the battery
For battery voltages lower than 8.4 V, a
message appears recommending the use
of Pb Refresh mode.
