9. Maintenance
To keep your detector in good working condition, you must test the detector once
a week, as described in the section "7.5 Testing the smoke detector".
In case of malfunction and end of service life, you will hear a signal every 43 se-
conds. Replace the device immediately in such cases.
Vacuum the dust from the sensing chamber of the detector at least once a year.
Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to clean the detector. Care-
fully remove any dust on the detector components, especially on the openings of
the sensing chamber.
If fault alarms continue to emanate from the detector, you should check whether
the detector is positioned adequately. Install your smoke detector in another place
if it is not properly positioned.
CAUTION!
10. Additional safety instructions
Make sure that your family know the causes and effects of carbon monoxide poiso-
ning. Check the CO detector once a month.
Exchange empty batteries immediately. A qualified technician should check the
installation. Regularly examine your fuel-burning equipment such as fireplaces or
gas ovens.
Do not use any grill within your house or your garage.
Keep yourself informed and pay attention to any signs of carbon monoxide poi-
soning such as, for example, discomfort, headache, vertigo, nausea, shortness of
breath and cramps.
