PERFORMING TEST-WEIGHTS/
MEASURING BREASTMILK INTAKE
The volume of milk consumed by the baby will be weighed and displayed. The
scale electronically measures the difference of the before feeding weight of the baby
and the weight after breastfeeding.
For test-weighing to work properly, baby's diaper should not be changed between
the before and after weights. The baby should wear the same clothing for both the
before and after weight measurements. If baby spits up or drools during feeding, you
may want to use a cloth diaper as a bib during the feeding. Do not include this mea-
surement in either the before or after weights, as the baby never consumed this milk
The test-weight without the bib is the amount of milk that was actually consumed.
Note: Test-weights are always made using grams as the unit of measure. The reason
for this is that milk intake measured in grams is closely equivalent to milliliters (ml)
or cubic centimeters (cc).
