7.4 Changing the firing muffle
(trained electricians or service personnel only!)
Caution!
This product contains ceramic fibers, and can
release fiber dusts. Fiber dusts have proven to be
carcinogenic in animal experiments.
Observe EC safety data sheet.
The heat insulation of the firing chamber in the Multimat2 Touch
consists of ceramic fibers. After extended use of ceramic fibers
at temperatures above 900 °C, silicone type substances (cristo-
balite) may be generated. In certain cases, e. g. when replacing
the firing muffle, dust exposure may occur, which may cause
irritation of the skin, eyes, and respiratory organs.
Proceed as follows when replacing the firing muffle:
• All personnel must wear long sleeved clothing, headwear,
eye protection and gloves.
• Attach dust exhaustion to the dust source; if not possible,
equip personnel with dust mask FFP3 or similar.
• After completion of the tasks, possible adhering dust must
be first washed off the unprotected skin. Afterwards wash with
warm water and soap.
• Wash working clothes separately.
Warning!
Disconnect the Multimat Touch from main power
before opening the housing.
Service work may only be carried out by qualified
professionals or service technicians.
Disassembly:
Multimat2 Touch+Press
1. Observe dust protection measures!
2. Disconnect from main power!
3. Switch off compressed air feed!
4. Unscrew pressing hood, pull backwards somewhat and
carefully remove upwards.
5. Disconnect plug connector from the solenoid valve.
6. Release the compressed air tube from the solenoid valve
by pushing the clamping ring upwards and simultaneously
pulling off the compressed air tube.
7. Disconnect final position sensor.
8. Proceed further as described below for the Multimat2 Touch.
Multimat2 Touch
1. Unscrew cover and lift off vertically upwards (until pressing
punch is free).
2. Disconnect protective conductor from the cover.
3. Remove insulating disc(s).
4. Disconnect thermal element from both rear connecting bolts.
5. First remove the thermal element together with the bar, and
then the terminal insulation.
6. Disconnect the heating wire ends of the muffle from the two
front connecting bars (use a 12 mm flat wrench for the anti-
twist device of the connecting bar and a 7 mm flat wrench for
loosening the hexagon bolt).
7. Remove muffle from the insulating insert; be careful if the
furnace is hot and touch only the ends of the heating wire.

Assembly:
Caution!
Please wear cotton gloves when installing the
new muffle, as to prevent sweat from the hands
on the quartz tube.
Installation of a new muffle is done in reverse order of the
disassembly.
Note: After a muffle change, we recommend testing the tempe-
rature with the silver test (see section 6.5).
Warning!
Check that the wire ends are not in contact with
the metal mantle of the upper furnace section.
Reconnect protective conductor to the cover! Do not shut
the protective conductor between vessel and cover.
7.5 Replacing the control unit
(trained electricians or service personnel only!)
Warning!
Disconnect the unit from main power before
opening the housing.
Service work may only be carried out by qualified
professionals or service technicians.
Caution!
The firing chamber must be in its upper end
position.
1. Disconnect from main power.
2. Unscrew all Phillips screws below the control element.
3. Remove control unit in upward direction.
4. Disconnect vacuum tube and all plug connections.
5. Disconnect thermal sensor.
6. Disconnect protective conductor from the control unit.
Installation of the new control unit is done in reverse order.
Note: For shipping the control, use the reusable packaging only!
7.6 Inspections
After 15,000 lift cycles a warning note is indicated in the display
which can be reset with the "C" button. We recommend an in-
spection of the furnace. During this inspection, essential functions
are checked and components replaced, if required.
Please ask your specialist dealer for Dentsply services.
7.7 Cleaning notes
The Multimat2 Touch is varnished with an epoxy paint. Please
use a mild household detergent for cleaning the varnished
surface. The touch screen may be cleaned only when the unit is
switched off with a mild window cleaner.
