Correct use
Series CKS key adapters are operated in combi-
nation with an evaluation unit in the system family
CES-AZ-.ES-... or CES-FD-....
This safety component allows dangerous machine
movements to be performed as long as a valid key
is inserted. A stop command is triggered if the key
is removed during the dangerous machine function.
Before use, a risk assessment must be performed
on the machine, e.g. in accordance with:
EN ISO 13849-1
f
EN ISO 12100
f
IEC 62061
f
Correct use includes observing the relevant require-
ments for installation and operation, e.g.
EN ISO 13849-1
f
EN 60204-1
f
EN ISO 14119
f
The keys have a high coding level according to
EN ISO 14119.
The key adapter must be used only in conjunction
with the designated CKS keys from EUCHNER. On
the use of different keys, EUCHNER provides no
warranty for safe function.
Important:
The user is responsible for the proper integration
f
of the device into a safe overall system. For this
purpose, the overall system must be validated,
e.g. in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2.
Correct use requires observing the permissible
f
operating parameters (see Technical data).
If a data sheet is included with the product, the
f
information on the data sheet applies in case of
discrepancies with the operating instructions.
Description of the safety function
The safety function is defined by the related ap-
plication.
Device safety function:
f
- Safe detection of a key belonging to the system
and checking the associated key code. The safety
outputs are switched on if the key is valid.
Safety characteristics: category, Performance
f
Level, PFHD (see technical data for the evaluation
unit used).
Exclusion of liability and warranty
In case of failure to comply with the conditions for
correct use stated above, or if the safety regula-
tions are not followed, or if any servicing is not
performed as required, liability will be excluded and
the warranty void.
Safety precautions
Safety components fulfill personnel protection func-
www
tions. Incorrect installation or tampering can lead to
fatal injuries to personnel.
www
Check the safe function of the guard particularly
www
after any setup work
f
after the replacement of a system component
f
after an extended period without use
f
after every fault
f
Independent of these checks, the safe function of
the guard should be checked at suitable intervals
as part of the maintenance schedule.
WARNING
Danger to life due to improper installation or due
to bypassing (tampering). Safety components fulfill
a personnel protection function.
The switching operation may be triggered only
f
by keys specially designated for this purpose.
The key must be completely pulled out of the
f
key adapter in order to switch the safety circuit
off safely.
Mounting, electrical connection and setup only
f
by authorized personnel possessing the following
knowledge:
specialist knowledge in handling safety com-
−
ponents
knowledge about the applicable EMC regu-
−
lations
knowledge about the applicable regulations
−
on operational safety and accident prevention.
Use as a lockout bar only in combination with
f
unicode evaluation unit.
Function
The key adapter CKS can be used as a lockout bar,
for example. As soon as the key is in the key adapter,
the LED on the key adapter illuminates green and
data transmission to the evaluation unit begins. The
code read is compared with the taught-in code in
the evaluation unit. Each delivered key possesses
a unique electronic code.
The code of a key cannot be reprogrammed.
When the key is removed from the key adapter,
the green LED goes out, the outputs of the CES
evaluation unit are switched off and the machine
cannot be started.
In the event of a fault in the key adapter, the outputs
of the CES evaluation units will be switched off.

Mounting
NOTICE
The key adapter must not be opened.
f
To achieve the degree of protection IP65/IP69/
f
IP69K, it is necessary to install the key adapter
in a clean, flat front plate at least 1 mm thick and
to tighten the locking nut/the threaded ring with
a tightening torque of 1.1 ... 1.3 Nm.
The device may be damaged if the tightening
f
torque exceeds 1.3 Nm.
The key adapter is intended for mounting in control
panels with a fastening hole Ø 22 mm with protection
against twisting according to DIN IEC 60947-5-1.
The device is fastened using a locking nut from the
rear side of the panel.
1. Insert the key adapter into the mounting cut-
out from the front.
2. Tighten the locking nut with 1.1 ... 1.3 Nm.
3. After mounting, again check the key adapter
for firm seating and correct sealing of the front
plate.
Protection against environmental
effects
Remove dirt from the key and the key adapter
using a soft cloth and solvent-free, non-abrasive
cleaning agents.
Cover the key adapter and the key during painting
work.
Electrical connection
WARNING
The key adapter CKS must be used only with
f
a suitable EUCHNER connecting cable. The
connecting cable contains two screened cores
to transmit the signals from the key adapter to
the evaluation unit.
All the electrical connections must either be
f
isolated from the mains supply by a safety
transformer according to IEC EN 61558-2-6 with
limited output voltage in the event of a fault, or
by other equivalent isolation measures.
For terminal assignment, see Fig. 1.
f
For detailed information, see the operating
f
instructions for the evaluation unit used.
Setup and functional check
Observe the information in the operating instructions
for the respective evaluation unit during setup.
WARNING
Danger of fatal injuries as a result of faults in
installation and functional check.
Before carrying out the functional check, make
f
sure that there are no persons in the danger area.
Observe the valid accident prevention regula-
f
tions.
Teach-in function for the key
See manual of the related evaluation unit.
Electrical function test
After installation and any fault, the safety function
must be fully checked. Proceed as follows:
1. Switch on operating voltage.
The machine must not start automatically.
f
The CES evaluation unit carries out a self-test.
f
2. Insert key.
The LED illuminates green.
f
3. Enable operation in the control system.
4. Remove key.
The machine must switch off and it must not be
f
possible to start it as long as a key is not inserted.
The LED goes out.
f
Repeat steps 2 ... 4 for each key adapter.
