Leaks can be detected by passing cardboard or wood, wearing protective gloves and goggles, over the
suspect area. Look for discoloration of the cardboard or wood.
•
If you are injured by leaking fluid, seek medical advice immediately. A serious infection or reaction may
develop if appropriate medical treatment is not given immediately.
•
Keep operator and adjacent area clear for safe footing.
•
If your machine is equipped with an internal combustion engine and is to be used near a forest, brush,
or unimproved grassy area, the engine exhaust must be equipped with a spark arrester. Be sure to
comply with applicable local, state, and federal codes. Carry appropriate fire fighting equipment.
•
This machine is to be used for wood splitting only, do not use it for any other purpose.
•
Follow the instructions in the manuals supplied with the attachments for this machine.
Safety with petrol-powered machines
Petrol is a highly flammable liquid. Petrol also gives off flammable vapours which can easily ignite and
cause a fire or explosion. Never overlook the dangers of gasoline. Always follow these precautions:
•
Never run the engine in an enclosed area or without proper ventilation, as engine exhaust contains
carbon monoxide, which is an odourless, tasteless, deadly poisonous gas.
•
Store all fuel and oil in containers specifically designed and approved for this purpose and keep them
away from heat and open flames, and out of the reach of children.
•
Replace rubber fuel lines and washers when worn or damaged and after 5 years of use.
•
Fill the fuel tank outdoors with the engine off and allow the engine to cool completely. Do not handle
gasoline if you or anyone nearby is smoking, or if you are near anything that could cause it to ignite or
explode. Refit the fuel filler cap and fuel container cap securely.
•
If you spill gasoline, do not attempt to start the engine. Move the machine away from the area of the
spill and avoid creating any source of ignition until the gas fumes have dissipated. Clean up spilled fuel
to avoid a fire hazard and dispose of the waste properly.
•
Allow the engine to cool completely before storing in any enclosure. Never store a machine that has
gas in the tank or fuel container near an open flame or spark, such as a water heater, space heater,
clothes dryer, or furnace.
•
Never make adjustments or repairs while the engine is running. Turn the engine off, disconnect the
spark plug wire, keeping it away from the spark plug to prevent accidental starting, wait 5 minutes
before making adjustments or repairs.
•
Never alter the engine governor setting. The governor controls the maximum safe operating speed
and protects the engine. Over-revving the engine is dangerous and will damage the engine and other
moving parts of the machine. If necessary, consult your authorised dealer for engine governor settings
•
Keep combustible substances away from the engine when it is hot.
•
Never cover the machine while the muffler is still hot.
•
Do not operate the engine with the air cleaner or carburettor air inlet cover removed. Removal of these
parts could create a fire hazard. Do not use flammable solutions to clean the air cleaner.
•
The muffler and engine become very hot and can cause severe burns; do not touch.
General security
Safe operation of this machine is necessary to prevent or minimize the risk of death or serious injury.
Unsafe operation can create a number of hazards for you and those around you. Always take the
following precautions when operating:
•
Your wood chipper is a dangerous tool, not a toy. Use extreme caution at all times. The machine is
designed to cut wood. Do not use it for any other purpose.
•
Know how to stop the machine quickly.
•
Never operate your unit on a slippery, wet, muddy or icy surface. Use care to avoid slipping or falling
•
Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for proper operation and installation of attachments.
