PRODUCT DESCRIPTION UNIMAT 1
UNIMAT 1 is a classical model building tool
which was developed by the well known manufac-
turer of machine-tools, EMCO Maier.
Cool Tool, a company specialized in model-
making took over the production and the worldwide
distribution in 1987.
The first version (UNIMAT SL) was put on the
market during the 1950s and is still recognized
within competent model building circles.
Today`s UNIMAT 1 (being in production since
1982) is, compared to its predecessors, drawn up
as a completely modular system. The BASIC sys-
tem consists of approximately 60 component parts
(machine beds, slides, motors, tools,...) which can
be combined with each other in various ways.
The machine tools can easily be put together (!)
according to work requirements.
The CLASSIC construction kit of UNIMAT 1
enables you to assemble a number of different
machines:
Jig-saw (completely safe, maximum 7 mm cut)
Woodturning lathe (for every type of wood up to
50 mm diameter)
Lathe (for soft, coloured or precious metals)
Drilling machine (for tools of 0.5 – 6 mm)
Milling machine (for standard milling heads)
Sanding machine (for each modelmaking material)
The module system can of course be expanded
according to your needs.
Although the module system offers a wide range
of accessories (i.e. dividing attachment, various
chucks, turning tools, milling heads, ...), it is also
possible to use individual parts from other machines
(e.g. tools or motor).
THEREFORE IT IS POSSIBLE:
To make gears, mill spirals, circular saws and
cawe glass, etc.
In addition, this multifunctional system for more
than 30 different machines can be put in a drawer
or a briefcase. As the system is compact and the
space requirements are very small, this hobby can
even be carried out on the kitchen table.
Even though UNIMAT 1 was developed as a
modelmaking tool, it is, because of its safety, also
of interest for children aged 8 years or over (as a
didactic leisure pursuit or for use in schools).
We offer the BASIC construction kit completely
with 12V- transformer (220 V or 110 V), tools and
construction plans.

THE FUNDAMENTAL APPLICATIONS OF
UNIMAT 1
PRELIMINARY
REMARKS
ASSEMBLAGE:
UNIMAT 1 consists of different components which
are fixed together with connection pieces. Should the
connection be too weak then there are different possi-
bilities to reinforce it (e.g. stabilizing plates accessory
162 470). The operating instruction will show you how
and when to enforce.
The UNIMAT 1 module system is adjusted to a
(maximum) size of a work piece. There is the possi-
bility to process also bigger (and harder) work pieces
through a different construction. But one should
remember that this machine was not developed for
such a load (that is: the bearings are too weak, the
load too strong, the synthetic parts could break ...).
Nothing will happen if you work "sensitively" and
for short periods, but if you are looking for the limits of
UNIMAT 1 you will soon meet them (knocked out saw
cage, destroyed sledge ...).
When setting up the UNIMAT 1 please consider
the following:
1. A screw with a metal nut which clamps together
two parts (e.g. the clip connection M2 which
connects the two machine beds) can be tightened
very firmly (!), nothing will happen.
2. But if the metal nut clamps two synthetic parts
(e.g. adjust the sledge movement, clamp the tip of
the tailstock, ...), then screw it down very gently.
3. If the nut of the screw is made of synthetic mate-
rial (e.g. saw housing) then you have to tighten it
very gently, otherwise the thread of the synthetic
will be destroyed.
BASIC sources of danger and miscellaneous see on
page 26.
