Face plate turning (pear-wood)
To turn a „ring" (wood: oak)
HANDBOOK
Hold a piece of sanding paper (grain 150) on to
the rotating work piece and move to the left and to
the right, to prevent grooves.
If the surface is smooth you can eventually press
on sawdust to the rotating workpiece (= polishing).
Finishing:
(when the workpiece has been completely san-
ded) press beeswax or resin-oil (a small amount on
a piece of cloth) on to the work piece and spread it
out evenly.
The woodturing piece is only demounted after it
has been sanded and lacquered.
AVOID:
The workpiece should be processed cleanly (which
requires a lot of sanding). The gouge should be well
sharpened (re-sharpen if necessary). The motor should
not be blocked and the driving belt should not slip.
The drive center (U32) must be fixed firmly in the
wood.
WHAT TO DO IF ...
The work piece is ugly:
Sand it or use a better type of wood (no spruce).
Work piece is turning too slowly:
Loosen the tailstock or the gear rim.
No chip removal when turning:
Sharpen the gouge, turn the gouge (when
working), check the direction of rotation (of the
motor).
Spindle turns, but the work piece does not:
Hit the drive centre harder into the wood, fasten
the collet holder U48, or change the wood.
MAINTENANCE:
1. Grease the tailstock-center or use the rotating
centre (accessories 162 450)
2. Sharpen the gouge (chisel).
3. Change the hand rest and screw when worn
out.
4. The right tension of the drive belt is very impor-
tant!
(The pulley of the motor should not slip!)
POSSIBILITIES:
Chess-game,
candle
holders,
childrens´games (rattles), tiny art objects (plates,
cups), ...
Generally very interesting for model making
(poles of ship models, doll´s houses, various tiny
plugs, ...)
Spinning tops, rustic style furniture, spinning
wheels,...
Working with face plate U26:
Fix the work piece with 4 screws on to the face
plate and turn inside and outside (little cups,
trophies, plates, ...)
IMPORTANT:
The raw material does not have to be round,
squared timber can be processed as well as bran-
ches or different types of glued wood.

possible with accessory)
