Possible cause
The batteries are not
installed in the correct
orientation.
The battery power level
is low.
The sample containers,
sample vials, caps and
other items that
touched the sample
have a chlorine
demand.
The sample was not
analyzed immediately.
The reagents were
added in an incorrect
sequence.
Solution
Make sure the battery orientation is
correct.
Replace the batteries if the battery
power level is low. Use only non-
rechargeable batteries.
Collect samples in clean glass
bottles. Do not use plastic
containers. Plastic containers can
have a large chlorine demand.
Pretreat items that the sample may
touch to remove chlorine demand.
Refer to the instructions in the
Sample Collection section of the test
procedure.
Analyze the samples immediately.
Chlorine is a strong oxidizing agent
and is unstable in natural waters.
Make sure that the reagents are
added to the sample vial in the
sequence given in the test
procedure.
