3 Alignment
Only correct prosthesis construction provides effective use of the joint's benefits.
For good alignment, it is helpful to consider the angle of the stump for the
position of the socket adapter. In order to ease defining the position of the
lamination anchor or the socket adapter, plumb lines can be drawn in frontal
and sagittal level starting from the hip joint rotation point; during casting and
fitting procedure.

position usually results in a socket flexion of approx. 5°. However, it is important
to include consideration of individual stump situations (e.g. contractures etc.).
For positioning the socket, please pay attention to the correct tuber-ground
distance!

The prosthesis is aligned according to
Burkley. In frontal view, the plumb line
(a) runs down from the socket centre
via pyramid connection and centre of
the tube support. In sagittal level, the
construction plumb line (b) runs from
Trochanter Major (T) over the knee joint
to the junction between back third and
centre third of the prosthetic foot; the
heel height is adjusted to approx. 5 mm.
Use Streifeneder tube adapters for this.
The knee joint axis must be positioned
13 mm behind the construction plumb
line. Consider the distance from knee to
ground.
For orientation, place central marks with
a pen on the lateral socket surface in the
proximal and distal area and connect the
marks with a line from the trim line to
the end of the socket. The central line
of the socket must cross the alignment
reference line at the trim line (socket
entrance level). An ordinary socket
