Attaching a guide comb
− Attach a guide comb appropriate for the desired coat length. See chapter
"Attaching and removing a guide comb".
Getting your pet ready
− Your pet's hair should be freshly washed and dried, and all knots and
tangles brushed out.
− Before you start clipping, turn the clipper on and hold it near your pet to
familiarize the pet with the humming sound of the clipper.
Deciding on a style
− Familiarize yourself with your pet's breed standard and decide how its coat
should look like and how to get it looking the way you want.
− The internet is an invaluable source of information.
Getting yourself ready
− Make sure you know how to trim your pet's coat safely before you start
clipping. If you have never clipped your pet, obtain as much information as
possible beforehand.
− If you feel unsure how to use the pet grooming kit safely, you can contact a
professional groomer, vet or trainer and ask for advice. Try to be as relaxed
as possible when you clip your pet.
Attaching and removing a guide comb
The clipper
to help you cut the pet's coat cleanly to a consistent length with
minimal pull. They also help protect the pet's skin from accidental
cuts. Each guide comb is marked with a number (1, 2, 3 or 4) and
the length it will leave the coat (in inches and mm).
• Guide comb #1 (1/8", 3 mm)
• Guide comb #2 (1/4", 6 mm)
• Guide comb #3 (3/8", 9 mm)
• Guide comb #4 (1/2", 12 mm)
The guide combs do not cut well through a heavily matted coat.
They are best used on a clean and combed coat.
