The zigzag stitch is one of the most common
and
versatile
stitches.
It can be a utility stitch for button
sewing,
buttonhole
making,
hemming,
overcasting,
mending
and darning.
It can also be used to deco-
rate with trims,
appliques
and cut work or as a
decorative
stitch.

Satin stitch foot

The satin stitch is often used to decorate
and to
overcast
a raw edg e of blankets,
linens, tablecloths,
napkins,
etc.
It is also attractive
in applique.
Once your machine
is set up to stitch,
test stitch on
the fabric
being used, for best results.
A tight satin
stitch may pucker some lightweight
fabrics.
