7. A large "+" appearing on screen means the signal is in phase and the wiring is correct (figure 57).
8. If instead of a "+" you get a "-", the speaker is out of phase and should be corrected.
9. A big "?" or a screen switching between plus and minus symbols means the sound pressure is at a
level that is not detectable by the PAA6. So turn it up! The signal generator's level can be turned
up, as can your speaker's signal.
Attention: Make sure the sound pressure level of the polarity signal from the system is higher than the
noise from the surrounding environment. The PAA6 will not be able to detect the phase of the speaker
accurately if the polarity signal is not at a suitable level.
The above procedure is for checking the polarity of speakers. The same method can be used to check
the wiring of cables themselves, you simply need to select the Line input as your input source. After
doing so, connect one end of the cable in question to your signal generator and the other end to your
input. Points 6 through 9 should be identical from that point on.
