3. DIAGNOSIS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MEXICAN SOCIAL SECURITY INSTITUTE
The percentage of hearing loss is determined from the tonal audiogram for the 500, 1000, 2000 and 3000 Hz frequencies,
and according to the Mexican Social Security Institute.
A. Monoaural Hearing Loss
•
Hearing Loss (%) = (total thresholds / 4) * 0.8.
•
Average dB = (total thresholds / 4).
A. Bilateral Hearing Loss
•
Bilateral Loss (%) = (7 * (loss % in the best ear) + (loss % in the worst ear)) / 8.
C. Diagnostic Classification of the Hearing Impairment
The 'COUNCIL' diagnoses do not establish a hearing loss diagnostic classification. Therefore, the 'MINISTRY' diagnosis classification
is used.
4. ELI INDEX
The ELI Index (Early Loss Index) is calculated from the 4000 Hz frequency, following the Specific Health Surveillance Protocol
(Spanish Interterritorial Council of the National Health Service). The percentages of hearing loss are not indicated.
A. ELI Index
ELI Index = Threshold at 4000 Hz – Table 3 value according to age and gender
B. Diagnostic Classification of the Hearing Impairment
In Table 4, acoustic traumas are classified with an increasing A-B-C-D-E scale, from greater to lesser hearing capacity.
