General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING

Read before use!

To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read and understand the instruction
manual.
The device has been built and operates safely in accordance with the state of the
art and the recognised rules of safety. Nevertheless dangers for the user or third
parties or material damage may arise from improper use or use not for the intended
purpose. Therefore read and follow the safety instructions!
Keep all safety rules and instructions for the future.
Only use the device for the intended purpose and under observance of the general
safety and accident prevention regulations.
A) Work place
● Keep the work place tidy. Untidiness can cause accidents.
● Avoid dangerous ambient infl uences (e.g. infl ammable liquids or gases).
● Keep children and other persons away when using the device. Distractions can
lead to you losing control of the tool.
● Make sure that the work place is well lit.
● Make sure you are standing safely during work.
● All unauthorised modifi cations to the device are prohibited for safety reasons.
● Change worn parts immediately.
● Never let REMS Eskimo operate unattended.
B) Safety of persons
● Only employ trained personnel. Youths may only operate the device if they are
over 16 years of age, it is essential to achieve their training goal and they are
supervised by a specialist.
● Wear tightly fi tting clothing, tie loosely hanging hair, take off jewellery and similar.
● Use personal safety equipment (protective glasses, gloves).
● Only use genuine accessories and spare parts for your own safety, to assure
proper functioning of the device and to uphold your warranty rights.
Special safety instructions for handling carbon

WARNING
● Inhalation of CO
in concentrated form is dangerous to the health. Therefore the

breathing air may not contain greater concentrations of CO
of suffocation!!!
● If a CO
system or a defective safety valve leaks CO
2
escape into the outside air immediately. Submerged rooms (pits, shafts, base-
ments) must be evacuated immediately.
● Only work in a well aired environment. CO
heavier than air. It therefore gathers near the fl oor and displaces the air if there
is no adequate ventilation. Danger of suffocation!
WARNING
● Work with naked fl ames may not be carried out closer than 60 cm from the
freezing point.
● Do not hit freezed collars with tools (danger of breakage).
● Keep other persons and especially children, also animals away. Dry ice causes
burns in contact with the skin. Do not dispose of residue ice from collars care-
lessly at the end of work but throw it in the waste bin.

● Unauthorised refi lling of CO
from one gas cylinder into another is a high safety

risk and must be performed by appropriately trained staff of an authorised fi lling
company.

cylinder valves frequently have overpressure protection in the form of a

rupture disc which is fi xed to the valve by a union nut. This device may never be
manipulated in any way to avoid unwanted and dangerous escaping of CO

case of small cylinders in suitable cariers or in the cylinder pallet. Do not hang
pressurised gas cylinders to a crane by the valve protection (e.g. protective cap
or cage) for transport. The valve protection devices are designed exclusively for
protection of the valve and may not be used for lifting with a crane or lifting devices
(e.g. chains).

● A risk assessment must be made before emptying pressurised gas cylinders.
● Pressurised gas cylinders connected for emptying must always be secured against
falling over.
● Before emptying pressurised gas cylinders, it must be ensured that the gas cannot
fl ow back into the pressurised gas cylinders from the pipe system.
● Follow the safety instructions of the CO
● Observe and follow the valid national safety conditions, rules and regula-
tions for the place of application.

1. Technical Data

Use for the intended purpose
WARNING
REMS Eskimo is intended for freezing unemptied pipes with carbon dioxide (CO
refrigerant.
All other uses are not for the intended purpose and are therefore prohibited.

1.1. Scope of Supply

Pipe freezer, 2 freeze collars each Ø 1/8" – 2", Ø 10–60 mm (10 sizes), bottle
connection with T-distributor, closing nut, 2 handle pieces with injector nozzle,
2 high-pressure hoses, operating instructions, plastic case.

1.2. Working range

Liquids of all types such as water, milk, beer etc. in pipes made from steel,
copper, cast iron, lead, aluminium, plastic etc. Pipe sizes ⅛ – 2" respec tively
10 – 60 mm.
The ice pack which forms in the pipe is capable of withstanding a pressure of
approx. 500 bar.

frozen. Place the freeze collars on the pipe and secure by tightening the screws
evenly to give a fi rm but not overtight hold (Fig. 2). Turn and, at the same time,
push each handle piece with injector nozzle into the bore of the freeze collar
until it is completely inserted and resting against the stop (Fig. 3).
If one only operates with one collar, the free side of the T-distributor has to be
closed by the closing nut. If a 3. or further freezing points are required, additional
T-distributors (accessory) can be connected to the T-distributor.
