REPLACING THE PUMP DIAPHRAGMS

The failure of one or more pump membranes generally results in contamination of the pump's oil
so that the mechanical assemblies are attacked by the chemicals in the fluid. It is therefore essential
that if the pump membranes fail, you stop the pump immediately and contact a specialised techni-
cian to have them replaced.
a. Remove the pump heads (30) one by one by undoing their bolts (31).
b. Remove the diaphragm bolt (38) and disk (39).
c. Remove the damaged diaphragm (44).
d. Remove the liners (40) from the pump body (43) with special attention to their position in the body and the two
holes inside each liner. They must be inserted in the same orientation when reassembled.
e. Completely drain the pump body of the remaining oil, and remove the oil reservoir plug (27).
f.
Wash the mechanical assemblies with diesel and leave them to dry.
g. Restore the liners to their original positions. Take care during the operation not to damage the circlip (41) of the
piston (42).
h. Now fit the new diaphragms (44) taking care to position them with the "OIL" marking facing the liner. Take special
care when fitting the outer edge of the diaphragms into the outer edge of the liners. This is easier to do if the piston
is at the bottom dead centre.
i.
Fit the disk (39) to the diaphragm (44) in its seat and secure the pack with the bolt (38) tightened to its nominal
torque (see exploded view).
j.
Reposition the heads (30) taking special care when fitting the outer edge of the diaphragms (44) into the grooves
inside the heads.
k. Torque the head bolts (31) (see exploded view in the pump manual).
l.
Fill the pump body with fresh oil; turn the shaft by hand to drive out all air inside the body (43) as this can cause the
pump itself to malfunction.
