FUNCTIONING CHARACTERISTICS
The FCX-ACT fan coils are supplied ready to operate in the
standard configuration but they allow the installer to adapt
them to the specific needs of the system with dedicated
accessories and to customise the functions by adjusting the
internal Dip-Switches (see DIP-SWITCH SETTINGS).
Response to the commands is immediate except under special
circumstances.
System types
The FCX-ACT fan coils have been designed for systems with 2
pipes, in the following versions:
- without valve;
- with two-way valve (water probe downstream of the valve);
- with three-way valve (water probe upstream of the valve);
Ventilation
The three-speed ventilation can be controlled either manually
with the selector in V1, V2 and V3 positions (the fan is used
with cycles of coming on and off at the selected speed), or
automatically with the selector in AUTO position (the fan
speed is controlled by the thermostat according to the room
temperature).
For systems with valve and Water Probe installation upstream
of the valve there may be a delay (delayed ventilation up to
2'40" max) between the valve start-up and the fan activation
(exchanger pre-heating).
Season change
The thermostat changes season automatically.
The season change takes place depending on the temperature
of the water in the system.
According to how the Dip switches are set, there may be two
season change modes on the water side:
- only with minimum/maximum temperature check;
- with minimum/maximum temperature check and battery pre-
heating (delayed ventilation up to 2'40" max).
Only for special systems with downstream water probe or a
two-way valve, this season change takes place on the air side, by
operating the temperature selector; with this setting the fan coil
in existing systems can be used with a two-way valve, but it is not

UNIT INSTALLATION

WARNING: check that the power supply is disconnected
before performing operations on the unit.
WARNING: the electrical connections, the installation of the
fan coils and relevant accessories should be performed by a
technician who has the necessary technical and professional
expertise to install, modify, extend and maintain systems, and
who is able to check the systems for the purposes of safety
and correct operation.
The fan coil should be installed in such a way as to facilitate
routine (filter cleaning) and special maintenance operations, as
well as access to the air breather valve on the side of the unit
frame (connector side).
The assembly site must be chosen in such a way that the
maximum and minimum room temperature limits are respected
0÷45°C (<85% U.R.).
To install the unit, proceed as follows:
-
Extract the air filter.
- Undo the screws and remove the housing (Fig. 3).
- In case of wall-mounted units, keep a minimum clearance of 80
mm from the floor. In the case of floor-mounted units on feet,
refer to the instructions supplied with the accessory.
- Use expansion plugs (not supplied) to secure the unit to the
wall (fig. 6).
- Make hydraulic connections (fig. 7).
Refer to the dimensional data for the position and diameter
of the hydraulic connections.
16
recommended as it reduces the electronic thermostat simplicity
of use (viewing the Heat/Cool functioning status through the LED
is altered, depending on the selected temperature and on the air
temperature in the room).
Water temperature checks
The thermostat enables the ventilation only if the temperature
of the water is suitable with the Heat or Cool mode.
The enabling thresholds (35°C or 39°C for heating and 17°C or
22°C for cooling) can be set through the Dip-Switches.
The control panel indicates when the water temperature is not
adequate for the functioning mode set, through the alternate
flashing of the fuchsia LED C with red or blue depending on
the active mode.
If the three-way valve has been installed, the SW water probe
(standard) must be replaced with the SW3 accessory, whose bulb
must be positioned on the delivery pipe upstream of the valve.
Valve control
The valve can be controlled in two modes:
- optimised: uses the fan coil for Heat capacity to radiate
heat even when the ventilation is off and the fan coil for Cool
capacity to have continuous ventilation keeping the control of
the room temperature through the valve;
- normal: the valve is opened or closed when the fan is turned
on or off.
Emergency Mode
If there is a functioning fault in the SA ambient probe, the
thermostat enters the Emergency mode, which is indicated
when the yellow LED (D) flashes. In this condition the
thermostat operates as follows:
- with selector (A) in OFF position, the water valve is closed
and the fan turns off.
- with selector (A) in position AUTO, V1, V2 and V3 the water
valve is always open and the fan goes through the cycles of
coming on and off; in this condition the power coming from
the terminal is manually controlled through the selector (B):
turning it to the right increases the duration of the On cycle;
turning it to the left decreases the duration.
Insulate water lines adequately or fit the auxiliary condensate
drainage tray (available as an accessory) to prevent dripping
during cooling applications.
The condensate drain system should be of an adequate size
and be positioned to favour runoff (min. 1% slope). If condensate
is discharged into the sewage system, install a siphon to
prevent the return of unpleasant odours into the room.
- Apply any accessories.
If the three-way VCF valve has been installed, the SW water
probe must be replaced with the SW3 accessory, whose
bulb must be positioned on the delivery pipe upstream of
the valve.
- Make the electrical wirings as shown in the wiring diagrams
and in the "ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS" chapter.
- To change the electronic thermostat settings use the Dip-
Switches located inside the panel (see the "DIP-SWITCH
SETTINGS" chapter).
- Refit the cover, and remember to connect the ambient probe
that should protrude approximately 3 mm from the probe
holder and should be firmly secured with a suitable probe
clamp (fig. 3).
- Refit the air filter.
- CHECK THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE FAN COIL BY
MEANS OF THE AUTOTEST PROCEDURE. I
activate the Autotest function to verify the operation of the fan
and the possible VCF valve and RX resistance accessories.
