MAINTENANCE

SERVICING AIR FILTER
A dirty air filter will restrict the inlet of air to the carburettor. To
prevent any malfunction of the carburettor, it is essential to perform
regular maintenance on the air filter.
1. Press the tabs [4] located on the
top of the air filter cover and
remove the cover [5].
2. Tap the filter [6] several times on
a hard surface to remove dirt or
use an air compressor (without
exceeding a pressure of 2 bars,
30 psi) to blow air through the
filter from the inside towards the
outside.
NOTE: The paper element of the air filter
must be dry in order to work properly. Do not
soak it with oil. Do not use a brush to clean
the element.
3. Use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt from
the air filter cover [5] and from the housing [8].
NOTE: Check that no dirt has entered the air pipe leading to the
carburettor.
4. Reinstall the filter [6] and fit the filter cover [5] by inserting the
lugs [7] in the slots on the housing.
CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL
CAUTION :
• Used engine oil can cause skin cancer if it is allowed to come into
contact with the skin repeatedly and for long periods. Even though this is
improbable unless used oil is handled every day, it is nevertheless
preferable to wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible
after handling used oil. Used oil must be kept out of reach of children.
NOTE: Drain the oil while the engine is hot to obtain quick and
complete drainage.
1. To drain the engine oil, remove the oil
filler cap / dipstick [9] and the oil drain
plug [10].
2. Reinstall the drain plug [10] and tighten
it fully.
3. Top up with recommended oil
page
5), and check the oil level visible
on the dipstick [11].
4. If the level is low, top up with
recommended oil until reaching the
upper limit [12] on the dipstick.
5. Reinstall the oil filler cap / dipstick.
Oil capacity: 300 cc
NOTE: Used engine oil must be disposed
of in an environmentally friendly manner. It
is recommended that it should be taken in
a sealed container to your local waste processing plant or to a
service station for recycling. Used oil must not be disposed of with
household refuse or by pouring it onto the ground or down the drain.

SERVICING SPARK PLUG
C5
Recommended spark plug:
CR4HSB (NGK), U14FSR-UB (DENSO).
CAUTION :
• Use recommended spark plugs only. Using spark plugs with an
unsuitable thermal index can damage the engine.
If the engine has just been running, the silencer will be very hot.
You should leave it to cool before performing any maintenance
work.
1. Remove the spark plug cap [13]
and use a spark plug wrench [14]
to remove the spark plug.
2. Perform a visual check on the
D2
spark plug. Replace it if the
ceramic insulator is cracked or
chipped. Clean the spark plug with
a wire brush.
3. Measure the spark plug gap with a
[5]
feeler gauge. Correct the gap if
necessary by curving the lateral
electrode inwards [15]. The gap
must be between 0.60 and
0.70 mm.
4. Check that the gasket is in good
condition and then screw the spark
plug finger-tight in place on its seat.
5. Tighten with a spark plug wrench to compress the gasket.
NOTE: In the case of a new spark plug, after fitting it finger-tight on
its seat, tighten it by half a turn with a wrench to compress the
washer. When reinstalling a used spark plug, it is enough to tighten
it by 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn.
CAUTION :
• A spark plug must be correctly tightened. An incorrectly fitted
spark plug can become very hot and damage the engine.
THROTTLE LEVER FUNCTION CHECK
NOTE: Do not apply any oil or lubricant to the operating area of the
lock lever and throttle lever as they could attract dirt or deposits.
1. Check that the lock lever [16] and
throttle lever [17] operate smoothly.
When operating the throttle lever
without operating the lock lever,
check that the engine revolution is
not changed.
2. If changed, check for deposits
between the lock lever and throttle
lever or between the lock lever arm
and throttle lever.
NOTE: Remove any deposits. If necessary, remove the lock lever
or lock lever arm and clean them.
