When starting initial operation and prior to the preparation of
beverages the machine should be operated once with water
only.
Due to the pressureless filtering principle the Melitta system
can generally guarantee for a high rate of coffee extraction, i.e.
the best possible exploitation of flavour and aroma substances
in the ground coffee. But optimal
is only achieved if water quantity and ground coffee are in
balanced proportion to each other which is not always the case
though. It depends amongst others on the type of coffee used
and the amount to be filtered.
If only approximately 1 ltr. is filtered then 7 gr. might be neces-
sary per cup whilst for larger quantities
sometimes sufficient.
This means that if larger quantities of coffee are to be filtered,
less ground coffee is necessary but the quality is maintained.
Several test filterings might be necessary to find out the best
dosage results.
b
Preheat the heat retaining urn (22) prior to use with hot
water
(approx. 2 ltr.) and leave the heater switched on
for about 10
minutes. The temperature of
retaining urn immediately reaches 80-85° C.
b
Please only operate the machine if the steam collector lid
is inserted to prevent any losses of temperature and
quality.
Preparing the filter
b
Fold the embossed surfaces and put the filter bag into the
the filter (1). Fill in the ground coffee or tea. Recommended
dosage:
Coffee = approx. 5 - 7 gr./cup or approx. 35 - 50 gr./ltr.;
Tea
= approx 1,5 gr./cup
b
Place the filter (24) on to the heat retaining urn (22) and
insert the lid (25). Please see that the cover plate (26) is
not inserted.
b
Now turn the swivel arm discharge (11) so that the opening
is exactly above the hole in the lid of the filter. Caution:
Serious injuries can be caused by the hot swivel arm
discharge and so therefore only move the swivel arm
sidewards by means of the small handle.
Use Melitta filter paper Pa 220 G
Filtering
Before putting the machine into operation please check if the
water supply tap has been opened.
b
Switch machine on with ON/OFF switch (2). The position
indicator lamp will start to burn if the heat retaining urn
(22)
- properly placed on the serving trolley against the
wall brackets - and the swivel arm discharge (11) are in
the correct position.
b
Depending on the required quantity the quantity selection
switch can be adjusted stepwise from 1 - 5. Adjust the
switch accordingly (see technical data sheet for details)
b
Press button (3) to start programme. The green indicator
lamp (4) showing the start of the filtering programme
illuminates and in intervals water automatically flows into
the filter.
b
The passage heater automatically switches off as soon as
the preselected quantity has passed the filter. The pro-
gramme indicator lamp ceases to burn and a sound signal
can be heard.
Caution: Immediately after the filtering process remaining
water in the swivel arm discharge (11) can cause serious
burns if the swivel arm is moved and water flows out of
the discharge spout.
b
Should the heat retaining urn be operated without the in-
serted filter (24) then place the lid onto the heat retaining
urn and close the opening in the lid with the cover plate
(26). This prevents a loss of warmth.
660 W Hot water unit
Putting into operation
b
Switch the unit on with ON/OFF switch (7). The water
container automatically fills with water and the boiler is
heated.
b
After approx. 14 minutes the boiler has reached operating

temperature. The indicator lamp (8) illuminates and the unit
can now be operated. Hot water can now be discharged.
Hot water discharge
b
Hot water can be discharged via faucet (14).
b
If water in the boiler becomes cold due to too much water
being discharged then the indicator lamp will stop burning.
Water discharge should now be interrupted. After a short
heating-up period the indicator lamp will start to burn and
the unit can be operated again.
Stop, Switching Off the Machine
Interruption of programme
b
The current programme can be interrupted if necessary.
For this press STOP button (3). The programme indicator
lamp will blink and the programme is interrupted.
b
If the START button (3) is pressed again then the pro-
gramme will be continued.
Switching machine off
b
If the heat retaining urns (22) have been emptied then
unnecessary heating of
avoided. Pull the plug of the connection cable (20) out of
the socket.
b
Throughout longer stillstands and overnight the machine
should be switched off.
b
With machine switch (2) the coffee machine unit as well
as sockets (19) and thus the heat retaining urns (22) are
switched of automatically.
b
For W-type machines switch off
b
Throughout longer stillstands or longer periods of no
operation switch off the electric supply and water tap on
customers' site.
Maintenance and Care
Caution: The machine should not be put into water for cleaning
purposes nor should water be poured or sprayed over the ma-
chine.
Coffee machines used for catering purposes are generally rather
expensive
and
therefore
should
Regularly maintained machines not only look good but also
make better coffee for a longer period of time. For this purpose
Melitta offers a special cleaning programme.
Cleaning of exterior surfaces
b
Wipe all plastic parts and stainless steel surfaces regularly
with a damp cloth. We recommend to use Swirl-EST care
products in aerosol cans, order no. 201025.
Spray a thin layer on all stainless steel surfaces, let it
soak, and then wipe off with a dry cloth.
Caution: The detergent contains aliphatic hydrocarbon with spe-
cial cleansing additives. Propellant: propane/butane. The contai-
ner is under pressure. Do not heat over 50° C and keep out
of the sun. Do not open with force or burn after use. Do not
spray into open flames or on to red hot parts. Do not inhale
fumes, and pay attention that room is sufficiently ventilated.
Keep out of reach of children. Do not spray into eyes.
After inhaling: rest, fresh air, seek medical treatment if
necessary. After body contact i.e. spilling on to persons: remove
contaminated clothing and wash thoroughly with water. After eye
contact: rinse immediately with much water. After drinking: rinse
mouth immediately, seek medical treatment if necessary.
Heat retaining urn
b
Fill 20 - 50 g/l. water Swirl-Cleanser 3000,

and clean with a suitable brush. Then discharge water via
faucet and rinse with hot water.
