4.0 OPERATION/ADVANCING AND RETRACTING THE
CYLINDER
IMPORTANT: The framework of the workshop presses are
exclusively designed for pressing operation, not for pulling. For
pulling applications please contact ENERPAC.
For complete operating instructions refer to the instruction sheets
included with each pump and cylinder.
IMPORTANT: It is mandatory that the operator has
a full understanding of all instructions, safety
regulations, cautions, and warnings before
starting to operate any of this high-force tool equipment. In
case of doubt, contact Enerpac.
WARNING: When operating the press, always make
sure the support pins are in their proper location. Failure
to insert these pins properly during usage will result in
equipment damage and possible personal injury. The Bolster
must rest completely on the support pins, and all tension
removed from the winch cable before operating cylinder.
4.1 Hand Pumps
Close release valve, then raise and lower the pump handle to
advance the cylinder to the desired stroke. To retract the cylinder,
open the release valve.
4.2 Electric Power Pumps
Shift the valve on the pump to the advance position, then run the
pump to advance the cylinder. To retract the cylinder, shift the
valve to the retract position and run the pump. If your press is
equipped with a single-acting cylinder you do not have to run the
pump to retract the cylinder.
4.3 Air Powered Pumps
Depress the pressure side of the treadle to activate the throttle
and advance the cylinder to desired stroke. To retract the cylinder
depress release.
4.4 Air Removal
With the pump positioned higher than the cylinder, advance and
retract the cylinder several times avoiding pressure build-up. Air
removal is complete when the cylinder motion is smooth.
Carefully read the instructions included with the pump and
cylinder for detailed procedures of air removal.
5.0 MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE
Regularly inspect all components to detect any problem requiring
maintenance and service.
1.
Replace damaged parts immediately.
2.
Do not exceed oil temperature above 60° C.
3.
Keep all hydraulic components clean.
4.
Periodically
check
connections and leaks.
5.
Change hydraulic oil in your system as recommended in the
pump instruction sheet.
6.
Periodically check the press frame to make sure all bolts are
tight and frame parts are undamaged. Immediately replace
worn or damaged parts with genuine Enerpac parts.
Hydraulic equipment must only be serviced by a qualified
hydraulic technician. For repair contact your nearest authorized
Enerpac Service Center.

6.0 INSTALLATION OF HYDRAJUST BED
POSITIONING DEVICE
The hydrajust device is not factory mounted. This device is only
usable with a double-acting cylinder in the press. With the
hydrajust device bolted to the cylinder plunger and under the
lower bed, the lower bed can be moved up or down.
After attaching the hydrajust and taking the weight of the lower
bed by the hydrajust, remove the support pins of the bed and
actuate the double-acting cylinder. When desired bed position is
reached, mount and secure the support pins.
Hydrajust for 50 ton [498 kN] press - Model No. VHJ50
Hydrajust for 100 ton [933 kN] press - Model No. VHJ100
Hydrajust for 200 ton [1995 kN] press - Model No. BSS5380
IMPORTANT: Position the support pins after moving
the lower bed. Make sure the bed rests completely on
the support pins.
WARNING: To avoid equipment damage and personal
injury never apply load on
the bed lifting device. The hydrajust is designed to move
the lower bed, not to withstand load.
6.1 Lowering the Lower Bed
See photo 1.
1.
Screw saddle out of the plunger.
2.
Assemble both parts of the hydrajust.

3.
Screw the pipe with the adaptor in the centerhole of the
plunger.
4.
Extend / Retract the plunger just enough to let the hydrajust
catch the lower bed from the bottom side.
5.
Rotate the hydrajust into a 45 degree position under the bed
(see photo 2 + 3).
