Helpful Hints for Using and
Using the Device
A breath sample must be provided each and every time the device
asks for one, even if you have arrived at your destination. Failure
to provide a sample will result in a violation being recorded on the
IID and will show on reports to jurisdictions.
Be mindful of the interlock service and lockout dates. These are
displayed on the IID each time your turn it on. All jurisdictions
require that you return to your service center prior to the lockout
date to remain in compliance with their interlock program. Your
vehicle will be locked out and will not start beginning at 12:01 AM
on the lockout date.
Do not smoke while using the interlock at least 15 minutes prior to
or while driving. Tar and nicotine will cause damage to the sensors
in the device which will result in repair costs or excess cleaning
charges.
Do not eat or drink anything other than water when using the
device. There are a number of products, either ingested or
inhaled, that can cause a failed device test. The following is a
partial listing of things that could cause failed alcohol tests...
•
Mouthwash containing alcohol
•
Foods that contain alcohol or sugar alcohol
•

•

alcohol)
