8. Taking measurements
– Place the scale on a firm level floor; a firm floor covering is required for correct measurement.

Note: There must be no skin contact between your feet, legs, calves or thighs. Otherwise the meas-
urement cannot be performed correctly. The measurement result will be incorrect if the measurement
is carried out with socks on.
First, the weight is displayed. Whilst the other parameters are being measured, "
user is recognised, the initials (e.g. TOM) appear on the scale display and the BMI, body fat, water, muscle
and bone, BMR and AMR are displayed.
If the user is not recognised, no initials appear and only the weight can be displayed. For further informa-
tion, see chapters 10 and 13.
Only weight measurement
- Step onto the scale wearing shoes. Stand still with your weight distributed equally on both feet.
Now step on the scale wearing shoes. Stand still on the scale with your weight distributed evenly between
both legs. The scale immediately begins to measure your weight.

Body mass index (BMI)
The body mass index (BMI) is a number that is often called upon to evaluate body weight. The figure is
calculated from body weight and height. The formula is: body mass index = body weight : height². The
