IN USE
^ Use in the power / air supply off state is not normal, there may be a
rapid build up of carbon dioxide, depletion of oxygen and little or no
protection is provided, vacate the contaminated area immediately.
Take care to prevent the battery cable from becoming looped around protruding
objects. If this should occur vacate the contaminated area and check apparatus
is undamaged.
If during use the air supply stops or is reduced, vacate the contaminated area
immediately and investigate the cause.
The "in-use" life of the helmet will vary with frequency and conditions of use. In
everyday use, particularly when used outdoors, it is recommended that the
helmet be discarded after 3 years service although some extreme conditions
may result in deterioration over a shorter period. For indoor or occasional use we
would anticipate a service life of approximately 5 years, provided the helmet is
stored as stated below. Do not use beyond the maximum life of the product.
DOFFING
Do not remove the helmet or turn off the air supply until you have vacated
the contaminated area.
1. Grasp the face seal loop, raise the visor and lift the helmet off the head.
2. Switch OFF the battery pack and unplug the cable assembly.
3. Unclip battery pack from waistbelt.
NOTE: If the respirator has been used in an area that has caused it to
become contaminated with a substance requiring special decontamination
procedures it should be placed in a suitable container and sealed until it
can be decontaminated or discarded.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION

^ Use only the cleaning processes and agents described in this section
to clean the product.
Use a clean cloth dampened with a mild solution of water and liquid household
soap.
To disinfect use wipes as detailed in Reference Leaflet.
Do not use petrol, chlorinated degreasing fluids (such as trichloroethylene),
organic solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean any part of the equipment.
^ Never attempt to clean filters by knocking or blowing out accumulated
material.
MAINTENANCE
Maintenance, servicing and repair must only be carried out by properly trained
personnel.

Battery Charging
Remove the battery by unfastening the clip and unplugging the connector.
Select an approved charger and charge the battery for a period of 14 hours.
Longer charging periods will not normally damage the battery pack but repeated
over charging may reduce the battery pack life.
Batteries will self-discharge during storage. They should be recharged when
stored for periods of 5 days or longer. If the storage period exceeds 3 months the
battery pack should be charged and discharged twice before fully charging prior
to use.
The charge/discharge cycle consists of a normal charge followed by a discharge
of at least 6 hours under normal running conditions.
Failure to observe the above procedure will result in a noticeable reduction in
battery duration during the first cycle of use.
Frequent partial discharge can result in an apparent reduction in battery duration
under normal running conditions. This apparent reduction will be noticed on the
first attempt of a full discharge after a number of partial discharges.
Full battery duration can usually be restored by 1 or 2 cycles of full discharge
followed by the normal recharging procedure.

FAULT FINDING

Symptom
Possible Cause
Increased airflow
1. Filters damaged
2. Filters incorrectly fitted
3. Temple or faceseal
damaged or incorrectly fitted
1. Filters clogged
Reduced Airflow
2. Motor housing clogged
3. Discharged Battery
No Airflow
1. Battery pack switched OFF
2. Battery disconnected
3. Discharged Battery
4. Motor damaged
Odour Detected
1. Filter capacity exceeded
when using dust and
nuisance odour filter
Pre-Filter Replacement
See Preparation for Use section.
Filter Replacement
See Preparation for Use section.
Motor Replacement (Figure 7)
The motor housing is a complete assembly. If a fault is suspected replace the
entire unit. No attempt should be made to repair it.
1. Unclip motor housing outer grille and remove prefilter.
2. Unclip motor housing retaining clip and withdraw motor with filter and
expander.
3. Remove filter and expander from motor by gently pulling apart.
4. Insert expander into replacement motor housing by gently pushing the
expander until it snaps into place. Ensure that the expander curves to the left
when the motor housing is upright with the cable nearest to you. Refit the filter.
5. Refit motor housing into the helmet.
Head Suspension Assembly Replacement (Figure 8)
Release the assembly by sliding the harness anchors out of the slots in the
helmet shell. CAUTION: When replacing the assembly ensure that the front
harness anchors are fitted beneath the head and face seal.
Head Cradle Assembly Replacement (Figure 9)
Remove the cradle assembly from the head suspension by releasing the buttons
on the harness anchors from the slot in the headband.
NOTE: The buttons on the harness anchors are marked F (Front) and B (Back)
to ensure that the cradle assembly is fitted the correct way round.
Forehead Comfort Pad
Detach the comfort pad from the headband. Wrap the replacement comfort pad
around the headband and re-attach (Figure 10).
Chin Strap
Attach the optional chin strap to the attachment points on the head suspension
(Figure 11).
Head and Face Seal Replacement (Figure 12)
Remove the Head Suspension Assembly as above. Unfasten the hook and loop
fastener at the back of the head and face seal and unhook the faceseal from the
visor surround retention points.
Hook the new faceseal over visor surround retention points working from bottom
to top of visor surround. Attach hook and loop fastener on faceseal to the
opposite surface on the helmet. Reinsert the Head Suspension Assembly.
Visor Replacement (Figure 13)
Scratched or damaged visors should be replaced.
1. Remove the faceseal from the visor surround as above.
2. Release the visor surround clip buttons by pushing the buttons outwards from
inside the visor. Remove the visor surround clips from the top and bottom of the
visor surround and retain. Remove the visor from the surround by gently
squeezing and pulling/pushing the visor outwards from the retention lugs.
3. Starting in the top corner feed the longest edge of the visor under the large
retention lug on the visor surround and over the corner lug. Feed the visor into
the slots along the side of the visor surround. Repeat on the opposite side of the
visor.
Ensure that all retention lugs are in place on the correct side of the visor by
running your finger around the outside edge of the visor.
Replace the top and bottom visor surround clips and lock in place by pushing
down on the visor surround button. The buttons should make an audible "click"
when fully seated in the surround. Ensure visor buttons are firmly secured and
flush to the visor frame. Replace worn or damaged parts if required.
Visor Surround Replacement (Figure 14)
Remove the faceseal as described above. With the visor surround in an
unlocked position, turn both pivots through 90° using a simple tool. Remove the
visor surround by pulling the pivots out of the cam slots on the helmet.
Replace visor surround by pushing the pivots into the cam slots on the sides of
the helmet. Lock the visor surround in position by turning the pivots through 90°.
