· Make sure that the device is fitted free of mechanical stress and distortion
(evenness of mounting surface 0.05 % of the stroke length; max. 0.5 mm).
· Position the ELGR so that its operating elements can be reached.
· Observe the maximum deflection è chapter Technical Data".
Note
Unsuitable mounting techniques can reduce the service life of the ELGR
considerably.
· Make sure that the mounting components are outside the positioning range of
the slide (e.g. projecting slot nuts).
· Take into account the asymmetric
geometry of the ELGR.
Depending on the orientation, the
slide unit or bearing cap projects
beyond the contour by the dimension
l (observe position X of the proximity
sensor).
· Observe the screw−in depth t
max
when using slot nuts (è Fig. 7).
· Attach the ELGR.
· Please select the appropriate accessories from our catalogue

5.2 Installing the useful load
Note
If the aluminium slide becomes bent
against a buckled useful load, the
service life of the guide will be
reduced.
· Make sure that the mounting
surface of the useful load is even
to within t 0.01 mm.

· Place the useful load so that the
tilting torque resulting from the force
(parallel to the movement axis) and
lever arm remains low.
· Fasten the useful load to the slide
with 4 screws and slot nuts as well as
centring elements, if needed.
(Tightening torque è Fig. 7).
Mass geometries with projection in the
longitudinal direction of the slide:
· Make sure that the useful load does
not strike against the motor or
bearing cap.

5.3 Fitting electric components

Protecting the end positions against uncontrolled overrunning:
· Check whether additional hardware proximity switches are necessary.
If inductive proximity sensors are used as hardware limit switches:
· Use proximity sensors with normally closed function.
The normally closed function protects the ELGR against overrunning the end
position if the proximity switch cable is broken.
· Use the proximity switches in accordance with the input of the controller being
used.
If proximity sensors are used as reference switches:
· Attach the mounting kit with
switching lug (S) and sensor
bracket (L) according to mounting
instructions
(è catalogue specifications,
www.festo.com/catalogue)
· Avoid external influence caused by
magnetic or ferrite parts in the
vicinity of the proximity switches
(3 mm distance).
To prevent soiling:
· Use slot covers from our catalogue.

5.4 Installing circuitry

Note
If used in safety−relevant applications, additional measures are necessary.
In Europe, for example, the standards in the EC machinery directive must be
observed.
Without additional measures in accordance with statutory minimum
requirements, the product is not suitable for use in safety−related sections of
control systems.

Warning
Moving masses can cause personal

injury and material damage
(crushing).
· Make sure that:
nobody can place his/her hand in
the path of the moving load (e.g. by
providing a protective screen),
there are no objects in the
positioning range.
It should not be possible to touch
the ELGR until the mass has come
to a complete stand.
