INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE FOR THE PATIENT
Correct habits and oral hygiene
1. Always remove your aligners while eating or drinking. Aligners need not be re-moved to drink cold water.
Coloured drinks (e.g. coffee, tea, red wine) should NOT be drunk, to avoid staining the aligners.
2. Unlike conventional brackets and wires, eating and drinking anything you want is always possible,
because your aligners can be easily removed. It is therefore not necessary to limit the consumption of
your favourite foods or drinks.
3. Always remove your aligners if you wish to smoke, to prevent yellow stains on them.
4. It is not advisable to chew gum while wearing your aligners, because it could stick to them and detach
them.
5. Brush the teeth and pass dental floss between them after every meal or snack, before inserting your
aligners again. If you are temporarily without your usual dental hygiene system or a toothbrush, rinse your
mouth and clean the aligners with running cold water.
6. For all questions about oral hygiene techniques, consult your dentist.
7. Dental check-ups and cleaning should be performed periodically to guarantee the health of teeth and gums.
Conservation of F22 aligners
• The initial kit includes an aligner holder. Aligners should be replaced in this holder when not been worn, to
reduce the risk of losing or damaging them.
• Immediately inform your dentist if the aligners currently worn are lost or broken. Your dentist may advise
you to wear the previous pair of aligners until they can be replaced, or the aligners of the next phase,
depending on how long the current aligners have been worn. As an alternative, your dentist may order a
new pair of aligners to replace the lost ones, and these will be available in a couple of days.
• Always wear your current aligners at every appointment with your dentist, and also bring the previous
aligners with you, each in its respective packaging bag. Your dentist will take the previous aligners and
will give you the aligners for the next treatment phase. The aligners worn most recently must then be
replaced in their packaging bag to take home with you.
• Immediately inform your dentist if an aligner attachment is lost or broken.
Your dentist will probably repair the attachment, or may decide that it is no longer necessary for the
subsequent treatment phase.
Caution
•
In rare cases, some patients may be allergic to the plastic from which aligners are made.
•
In rare cases, in patients affected by hereditary angioedema (HAE), rapid local swelling of subcutaneous
tissues may occur, including the tissues of the larynx, because HAE may be activated by slight stimuli
such as dental treatments.
•
In this case, the treatment must be suspended, immediately consulting the dentist.
•
Orthodontic devices or parts of them may be accidentally swallowed or sucked in, with harmful
consequences.
