PURPOSE: The Counterweight Base/Rack is designed for use as a base for a davit. The davit and base
combination can be used as part of a personal fall arrest or rescue system for a person where the system can be
installed on a level surface.
1.2
LIMITATIONS: The following limits apply to the installation and use of Counterweight Base/Rack. The
Counterweight Base/Rack must be used in combination with a davit. Other limitations may apply:
A.
HORIZONTAL LIFELINE: The Counterweight Base/Rack is not rated for use as an anchor for a
horizontal lifeline.
B
SYSTEM CAPACITY: When assembled with and equipped with the appropriate amount of counterweight
(see Figure 8), this system has the following capacity ratings.
C.
WORKING LOAD: This system is rated for a maximum working capacity of 450 lbs. [204 kg]
D
DAVIT: The Counterweight Base/Rack must be used in conjunction with a 3M Fall Protection davit only.
The davit selected must match the application loading and 'offset' (reach of the davit arm) requirements
as described in Figure 8
E.
ROTATION ANGLE: Rotation Angle: This system is only rated for fall arrest when the davit head
remains within a 120° rotation window. See Figure 6.
F.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS: Use of this equipment in areas where environmental hazards exist
may require additional precautions be taken to reduce the possibility of injury to the user or damage
to the equipment. Hazards may include, but are not limited to: heat (welding, cutting), extreme cold,

2.0 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
2.1
COMPATIBILITY OF COMPONENTS: 3M Fall Protection equipment is designed for use with 3M Fall
Protection approved components and subsystems only. Substitutions or replacements made with non-approved
components or subsystems may jeopardize compatibility of equipment and may effect the safety and reliability of
the complete system.
2.2
COMPATIBILITY OF CONNECTORS: Connectors are considered to be compatible with connecting
elements when they have been designed to work together in such a way that their sizes and shapes do not cause
their gate mechanisms to inadvertently open regardless of how they become oriented. Contact 3M Fall Protection
if you have any questions about compatibility.
2.3
MAKING CONNECTIONS: Only self-locking snap hooks and/or carabiners shall be used with this
equipment. Ensure all connectors are fully closed and locked and compatible.
3M Fall Protection connectors (snap hooks and carabiners) are designed to be used only as specified in
each product's user instructions. See Figure 3 for inappropriate connections. 3M Fall Protection snap hooks
and carabiners should not be connected:
A.
To a D-ring which another connector is already attached.
