EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES
• With lack of translation of this notice in motor used country language, it is the responsibility of the
distributor to translate and forward it to the end user.

• This document complements simplified manual: Installation and Maintenance ref: 1889 and general
manual: Installation and Maintenance ref: 3255
COMPLIANCE
• See EC declaration of conformity appended.
IMPORTANT
• The following instructions must be read and respected together with the standards relating to the rules for
installing electrical equipment and for explosive atmospheres, as well as all the documents which concerns the
area where equipment will be installed in explosive atmospheres, such as directives, laws, regulations, decrees,
orders, circulars and rules of the art. MOTEURS LEROY-SOMER cannot be held responsible if any of these
documents are not respected.
• When the motors are supplied by electronic converters which are adapted and/or slaved to electronic
command or control devices, they must be installed by a professional who will be responsible for ensuring that
the electromagnetic compatibility rules of the country where the product is installed are respected.
• The equipment concerned by this manual cannot be commissioned before the machine into which they are
incorporated has been declared to conform to the Directives which apply to it.
• In standard, motor impact test corresponds to the 'low' risk of mechanical danger, and the motors must hence
be installed in an environment with a low shock risk.
• If the taper of the openings intended to receive cable or duct entries have a metric thread, no specific marking
will be present on the motor; if the type of thread is different or mixed, its type is marked on the equipment.
• Any unused openings must be covered with screwed plugs.
• All the accessories (cable entries, plugs, etc.) mentioned in this manual must be of a type which is approved
or certified by the group, the application (gas and/or dust) and the temperature class must correspond at least
to those of the location of the appliance (see the indications on the motor nameplate). The instructions in their
instruction manuals must be respected when they are installed.
• The assembly of all its elements must guarantee the mode of protection (Ex) and protection indexes (IP, IK)
specified on the information plate. Sealing of the IP6X threading (mandatory if Ex tb marking) can be reinforced
with grease.
• When repainting the machine, the thickness of the paint coat must not exceed 2 mm and 0.2mm for the
equipment of the IIC group ; otherwise the paint must be antistatic.
BEFORE INSTALLATION
• Ensure compatibility of the information on the motor nameplate with the actual explosive atmosphere, the
operating zone and the ambient temperature.
• The motors must be stored in their original packaging and in premises protected against moisture (HR<90%)
and vibrations.
- Motors fitted with lifetime greased bearings: maximum storage time = 3 years; beyond this time, replace the
bearings with identical ones.
- Motors fitted with greasers (see general manual ref. 3255).
• Check that the ventilation cover has no traces of impact.
MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
• The motors are factory-fitted with guidance labels which must be left in place.
• Before commissioning, drain any condensation water from inside the motors (see § «Regular servicing»).
• Monitor the state of the seals and replace them periodically if necessary (minimum once per year for the 2D
motors). After any work involving dismantling the motors replace all the weatherproof seals with new seals after
cleaning the parts. Where the shaft crosses, make sure that the seals are not damaged on contact with the key
entries and shoulders.
• The belts must be anti-static and flame-resistant.
ELECTRIC CONNECTION
• Before start-up, any 'plastic' caps or of a non-approved type must be replaced either by cable or duct entries,
or screw-on plugs of a certified type suited to the zone. Cable or duct entries not used must be replaced by
screw-on caps of the certified type suited to the zone.
