C. Health risks associated with high blood pressure
Please consult your physician, as high blood pressure has serious health consequences.
Over the long term, raised blood pressure (various forms of hypertension) is accompanied by
considerable health risks. These risks concern the arterial blood vessels of your body, which are
endangered through narrowing as a result of deposits of fat on the vessel walls (arteriosclerosis).
This can result in an insufficient supply of blood reaching important organs (heart, brain, muscles).
In addition, the heart suffers structural damage as a result of extended periods of high blood
pressure.
D. Causes of high blood pressure
There are many different causes of high blood pressure. We differentiate between common primary
hypertension (essential), and secondary hypertension.
Please consult your physician for information about the possible origins of your own raised blood
pressure values.
E. Treatment of high blood pressure
There are measures which you can take to reduce medically established high blood pressure
or to prevent high blood pressure. These measures should be a part of your general way of life.
