Step 4. Tip the nail as shown (A) to activate the brake override lever. The brake
override lever is located internally on the side opposite the nail. The
override lever (B) may be partially visible through the screw hole. Some
force may be required to move the override lever. See Figure 11.
Step 5. While maintaining pressure on the nail, pull down on the line as shown.
Pull out enough line to easily allow the lowering mode to be reached.
Replace the screw or plug. See Figure 12.
7.0 INSPECTION
See GIUM 4.
BEFORE EACH USE: Visually inspect using Inspection Steps below.
MONTHLY: A formal inspection should be completed by a competent
person
other than the user. A formal inspection should be completed if the

system parameters are changed, such as after a system is moved, re-rigged,
anchorages moved, etc. Inspect the RPD per inspection steps below and see
GIUM 1.2. Record inspection results in the Periodic Examination and Repair
History Log at the end of this instruction.
ANNUAL: See GIUM 4.2. A record of annual service dates can be found on the
face label of the RPD.
INSPECTION STEPS
Step 1. Inspect device for loose fasteners and bent or damaged parts.
Step 2. Inspect device housing for distortion, cracks, or other damage. Ensure
the anchorage point (swivel eye) is not damaged or distorted.
Step 3. Inspect rope for cuts, severe abrasion, or wear. Check for contact with
acids or other chemicals.
Step 4. Inspect the duplex ferrules on both ends of the rope. The rope should
fully pass through each duplex ferrule twice. Check that the duplex
ferrules are not cracked.
Step 5. Check the pulleys for any signs of wear or strain. Check for distortion in
the swivel eye and shackle.
WARNING: Do not disassemble the RPD block. It is not user serviceable. See
Section 10.0.
Step 6. With the unit properly mounted from any sturdy structure, test the
over-speed protection system.
a. Position the traveling pulley approximately 1.2 m below the RPD
block.
b. Position the system so that the orange indicator fl ag (A) can be seen
and is to the side facing you. See Figure 13.
c. With the right hand, grasp the rope exiting the right side of the RPD.
Grip it near the bottom of the housing.
d. With the left hand, lightly restrain the free end of the rope.
e. Pull down sharply with the right hand (B) to engage the over
