Setting up
To set up the HEINE SIGMA
The setup and operation of the HEINE
The spectacle frame has a vertical swivel mount (14), onto which the HEINE SIGMA
from above by means of the pressure clasp (1). To remove the HEINE SIGMA
and pull them up and out of the mounting slot. Attach the bulb cord to the frame temple by means of the cord
retainers enclosed (15). The retaining cord can be simply pushed on to the ends of the temples. We recommend
that spectacle-wearers have purchase the clip-in correction frame and have it fitted with their prescription.
Operation
Light spot apertures:
With lever (3) you can select two different-sized spots.
Filters:
With the filter lever (4) you can add a red-free filter to any light spot. The optional blue or yellow filter or diffuser
accessory (5) can be push-fitted to the front of the instrument housing.
Stereopsis and Parallax:
The stereopsis control (6) below the instrument body adjusts the observation beam to suit the size of the patient's
pupil (forward position close to patient: large pupil). The parallax control (7) adjusts the illumination beam to suit
the size of the patient's pupil (upper position: large pupil). With both controls on the small setting it is possible
to examine in stereopsis with 2 mm pupils. We recommend large stereopsis and small parallax settings for the
examination of the periphery.
Lighting direction:
The rotary beam control (8) can be used to swivel the beam vertically to improve reflex reduction and retinal
illumination.
Teaching mirror:
The optional teaching mirror accessory (9) can be push-fitted from below to the front of the housing.
Basic setting:
• Remove the dust cover (10).
• Connect the power cord to your power source and switch on the illumination.s
• Carry out the following procedure:
Aperture lever (3) – large spot
Filter lever (4) – white light
Stereopsis control (6) – large pupil
Parallax control (7) – large pupil
Beam control (8) – middle of the range of adjustment
PD (11) – select your PD or set to an average position
Adjusting the optics
Put on the spectacle and check to ensure that the eyepieces are at the correct height. Remove the instrument
and bend the nose rest (16) carefully to adjust the height. Bend the temple (15) and if necessary attach the
retaining cord to the frame and adjust so that the instrument fits comfortably.
Setting the optics
• Move the HEINE SIGMA
of 30 – 40 cm. A small object like a pencil must be clearly-focused. Adjust the HEINE SIGMA
the light spot appears centred vertically in your view.
• Adjust the PD setting by viewing the light spot alternately with the left and right eye and sliding the ocular (12)
so that the spot is central. If you look through the ocular with both eyes, there should be no diploplic images.
• Correct adjustment of the optics is particularly important when examining through small pupils. Once set, the
adjustments need only be changed if another examiner uses the instrument.
• Each instrument is supplied with separate plano lenses which can be used to replace the + 2D lenses if
preferred. Change the ocular lenses only in a clean environment in order to avoid dust within the device.
