For a controlled release, lower the elevator car (or
equivalent) onto the buffer.
To release the plunger, undo the M8 retainer bolt, see
figure 4. The M8 bolt may be discarded.
Remove the elevator car (or equivalent) and this will
control the recoil of the buffer.

The units will require filling with oil to the specified level.
At installation the correct oil level of all buffers must be
checked.
Make electrical connections to the limit switch.
NOTE: For base fixing the minimum anchor bolt depth
in floor should be 150mm bolt shank diameter 20mm.
The maximum overall height should be checked against table 1
and should be within +0/ - 8.05mm of the figure stated.
OIL FILLING PROCEDURE
The filling can be either before or after installation of the
buffer but the correct level must only be checked when
extended. The buffer must be vertical when filled.
The correct oil specification is listed on the data label.
a) Securely mount the buffer in the shaft bottom.
b) Depending on which breather is fitted follow one of
the following:
i) Remove and discard the O-Ring from between the
filler/breather cap and the filler base. See figure 5,
number 1.
ii) Remove and discard the screw from the centre of
the oil filler/breather valve. See figure 5, number 2.
c) Remove oil filler/breather.
d) Fill the unit with oil, the approximate volume is stated
in table 1.
e) Take care when handling the oil and observe the oil
manufacturers recommendations.
f) Allow to stand for 30 minutes, then check oil level
with dipstick when buffer is fully extended and top up
as necessary. Leave to stand for a further 20 minutes,
recheck and top up again if required. The oil must be
at the level indicated on the dipstick.
g) If possible compress the plunger, then release – observing
that full extension is smoothly attained.
h) Refit oil filler/breather.

MAINTENANCE
Inspection need be no more frequent than the local
statutory checks on elevator installations or following an
impact. At the time, it is only necessary to simply check
that the oil level is correct and that the overall height
remains to the correct measurement. After impact check
buffer visually for any damage. Check gas spring by making
sure the buffer has fully re-extended.
Remove and clean away any dirt and debris around the
plunger and switch.
NOTE: If the buffer has not returned to the fully
extended position (determined by measuring overall
height) contact the buffer supplier.
OIL SPECIFICATION
The oil must conform to the specification on the buffer
data plate – ISOVG68 – SG .88/.90 at 15°C – hydraulic.
Pour Point - 18°C or lower.
Viscosity index 75 or higher.
