For the securing of loads, suitable add-on carrying equipment (e.g. sports

bars. For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends only using
accessories approved for use with these Mercedes-Benz basic carrier

WARNING
Each step of the installation instructions, as well as the warnings,
general safety information and notes provided, must be followed
exactly. If the basic carrier bars are not fitted correctly, they may
come loose from your vehicle together with the load, resulting in
injury to you and other persons and/or damage to property, including

G
WARNING
The roof load increases the surface area exposed to the wind, which
also raises the vehicle's center of gravity, thus causing a change in
driving characteristics. For example, the additional weight on the roof
of the vehicle may impair braking performance, cornering ability and
the acceleration characteristics of the vehicle.
Therefore, do not exceed a speed of 80 miles (130 km/h), even when
driving with unladen basic carrier bars fitted to the vehicle, and take
extra precautions.
Always adapt your driving style to the prevailing road, traffic and
weather conditions and drive with particular care if the roof is laden.
Do not exceed the maximum roof load and the maximum permitted
gross weight of the vehicle. This also applies when add-on carrying
equipment (e.g. sports and luggage container, ski rack) is installed.
Otherwise, the basic carrier bars, add-on carrying equipment and/or
loads may come loose from the vehicle, resulting in injury to you or
other persons and/or damage to property, including your vehicle.
If the permissible gross weight is exceeded, then road safety is
impaired and driving characteristics, in addition to steering and
braking characteristics, can deteriorate considerably. Overloaded
tires can overheat and explode as a result. There is a risk of an
accident.
When loading your vehicle, always adhere to its permissible gross
weight, including vehicle occupants.
Load
4
The maximum load is determined as follows (example):
Permissible roof load (1)
M-Class/GL-Class/GLK/X-Class:
Minus the weight of the basic carrier
bars (2):
Minus the weight of the additional
carrier equipment (3, 4):
Maximum load
M-Class/GL-Class/GLK/X-Class:
Important
Observe the permissible roof load of the vehicle; see the vehicle
Operator's Manual.
When transporting a load on the roof, observe national road traffic
licensing regulations and all relevant country-specific regulations.
The load may not protrude more than the legally prescribed
dimensions, or must be marked appropriately if it does.
