2 Safety Information
The caution symbol highlights safety information which must be followed carefully.
1. Any changes in performance of the ankle motion e.g. restricted movement, non-
smooth motion should be immediately reported to your service provider.
2. Always use a hand rail when descending stairs and at any other time if available.
3. Any excessive changes in heel height after programming will adversely affect
ankle function and should be immediately reported to your service provider for
reprogramming and calibration.
4. After continuous use the ankle casing may become hot to the touch.
5. Avoid strong magnetic fields, sources of electrical interference, atmospheres
containing liquids and/or powders.
6. Avoid exposure to extreme heat and/or cold.
7. The electronic components are sealed for water resistance. However the Elan is not
intended for use when immersed in water or as a shower prosthesis. If the ankle
comes into contact with water wipe dry immediately.
8. Ensure no water enters the interface/charging cable connector.
9. The Elan is not suitable for extreme sports, running or cycle racing, ice and snow
sports, extreme slopes and steps. Any such activities undertaken are done so
completely at the users' own risk. Recreational cycling is acceptable.
10. Contact your service provider for advice if the Elan is to be used with a pacemaker or
any other electronic medical device.
11. Assembly, programming and repair of the Elan must only be carried out by suitably
qualified practitioners, certified by Blatchford.
12. The user must not adjust or tamper with the setup of the Elan.
13. The user should be advised to contact their clinician if their condition changes.
14. The Elan detects standing and walking on inclines, declines and walking at various
speeds on normal ground. Non-identified movements such as treadmills and
travalators may cause unexpected ankle behaviour.
15. Never plug the charger into the Elan while still wearing the limb.
16. Only charge the batteries in the Elan using the charger supplied with the product.
Do not use this charger for charging any other device. Ensure the charging port
connector cover is correctly refitted after charging, replace if damaged.
17. Ensure only suitably retrofitted vehicles are used when driving. All persons are
required to observe their respective driving laws when operating motor vehicles.
18. Ensure charging cable and Bluetooth dongle are correctly aligned prior to connection
and that adequate access to the charging port is

19. To minimise the risk of slipping and tripping, appropriate footwear that fits securely
onto the footshell must be used at all times.
20. Be aware of finger trap hazard at all times.
