TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
ENGINE WILL NOT START
Possible Cause
Fuel valve OFF.
Choke OPEN.
Engine switch OFF.
Out of fuel.
Bad fuel; generator stored without
draining gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Low oil level caused Oil Alert to
stop engine.
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped.
Spark plug wet with fuel (flooded
engine).
Fuel filter restricted, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
ENGINE LACKS POWER
Possible cause
Air filter restricted.
Bad fuel; generator stored without
draining gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Fuel filter restricted, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
Correction
Turn valve ON (see page 14).
Move to CLOSED unless engine is
warm (see page 14).
Turn engine switch to ON (see
page 15).
Refuel (see page 32).
Drain fuel tank and carburetor (see
page 46). Refuel with fresh
gasoline (see page 32).
Add oil (see page 35).
Turn engine switch to OFF and
restart the engine.
Gap, or replace spark plug (see
page 43).
Dry and reinstall spark plug.
Take generator to your servicing
dealer, or refer to shop manual.
Correction
Clean or replace air filter (see page
39 through 41).
Drain fuel tank and carburetor (see
page 46). Refuel with fresh
gasoline (see page 32).
