2. Remove the 4 screws securing the emitter legs to the
base. See Fig. 13.
FIG. 13
3. Remove the emitter from the heater.
IGNITER AND ELECTRODE
Servicing of the igniter and electrode is needed when a
spark is not observed at the electrode when pushing the
igniter button. This may happen with hard use over a
long period of time, or due to dust and dirt
accumulation.
If you do not see a spark being generated at the
electrode check the following areas:
Igniter
1. Lay the heater on its side and remove the heater
base plate (4 screws) to access the gas control valve
related components.
2. Disconnect the electrode wire from the igniter. See
Fig. 14.

3. Remove the nuts securing the igniter to the control
plate and pull the igniter out.
4. Test the igniter by position a screwdriver tip about 1/8
in. from the igniter tip.
5. Holding the screwdriver by its handle, push the
igniter's button several times. If spark is not seen,
replace the igniter. If spark is observed, proceed to
electrode servicing.
Electrode
1. Lay the heater on its side and remove the heater
base plate (4 screws) to access the gas control
valve related components.
2. Remove the thermocouple (A) and pilot tube (B) con-
nections from the gas control valve.
3. Remove the two screws holding the electrode as-
sembly's bracket to the base. See Fig. 15.
FIG. 15
(A)
(B)
4. Pull the electrode assembly out.
5. Verify the electrode's insulator body is not cracked
and the electrode rod does not move within the as-
sembly. If it does, replace the electrode.
6. Inspect the insulation wire on the electrode wire for
burns or damages.
7. Check the wire for nicks, cuts, or mars. Nicks or cuts
will prevent a spark from being generated at the
electrode tip. Replace the electrode if necessary. The
electrode ships with the wire.
