HYDRAULIC SEPARATOR
When in the same installation there are both a primary circuit for
hot water production, equipped with its pump, and a secondary cir-
cuit for hot water distribution with one or more distribution pumps,
there can be special operating conditions of the installation, causing
the pumps to interact and creating anomalous differences in the
flow rate and in the circuit heads. The hydraulic separator creates a
reduced flow resistance zone and this allows the primary and secon-
dary circuits connected to it to be independent.
The advantages of using a hydraulic separator can be outlined as fol-
lows.
– The flow in one circuit does not create a flow in the other one, if
the flow resistance in the shared length is negligible.
– The flow rate in the circuits depends solely on the flow rate cha-
racteristics of the pumps, preventing a mutual influence due to
their in-series connection.
– The hot water production circuit has a constant flow rate and the
distribution circuit has a variable flow rate, which is a characteri-
stic feature of the modern air-conditioning systems.
We won't delve deep into the problem of the temperature differen-
ces caused by separators in the heating systems when the primary
and the secondary circuit have different flow rates. We are rather
presenting a criterion for calculating the size of the hydraulic separa-
tor according to the thermal power of the primary circuit, which is
the sum of the thermal power values of all the single boilers.
The hydraulic separator we are presenting has a bleed valve to elimi-
nate the air and an emptying valve to eliminate the sedimented impu-
rities, assuming there is a 15 °C difference between the delivery
temperature and the return temperature of the boiler circuit.

and of the inlet and outlet pipes is indicated, according to the casca-
de thermal power.

tor is intended only as general references; the ideal size must be cal-
culated according to the special characteristics of each installation.

ERROR DISPLAY
The regulator displays failures that might have occurred to the regu-
lator itself or to the system.
If a failure occurs during normal operation, you will see "Er" on the dis-
play.

Error explanation (RVA 47.320)
1 Push the line selection button to select line 50.
2 Push the + / - buttons to select the "guasti" (failure) line.

Boiler failures code display
For each boiler, the RVA 47.320 regulator can receive and store the
error code and the number of the relevant boiler.
1 Push the line selection buttons to select line 49.
2 Push the plus/minus buttons to enquiry about each boiler.
Displayed value
1...4 / 0..255
The display shows the boiler number and the relevant error code.
When no boiler sends any error code, or if no boiler is connected,
nothing will be displayed.
The meaning of the different error codes depends on the different
boilers. Therefore, we are not giving any information about those
codes now. For more detailed explanations, please refer to the
instruction manuals of the single boilers.
WARNING: The following paragraphs show a complete list of the
parameters with the default values, for the case the latter are
changed by mistake.
In this case, after resetting the original values, please follow the
instructions provided under the paragraph that refers to the select-
ed installation.
