1. PREFACE

Congratulations on your purchase of the Fastbind Secura hot melt book binding machine. The
simple design and versatile features of Secura makes it ideal for offi ce use, copy shops and small
scale printing businesses. Whether you want to bind reports, directories, catalogues, scratch
pads, books or booklets – Secura allows you to do it professionally and on demand.
A lot of product development has been done to make Secura the top of its class – a perfect bind-
ing machine. Productivity has been optimized by reducing set up time while maintaining low
running costs. Correspondingly, user friendliness has improved and various cover materials can
be processed without time consuming adjustments. Moreover, this binding machine provides
both economical and productive binding with great fl exibility. A single unit with the optional
hard cover tooling set can handle a whole range of paper products from simple tear-off pads to
demanding hard cover applications.

2. GENERAL INFO

Secura can be used to bind various paper and cardboard products. All three binding types can
be done with two simple tool sets and with the same machine settings. The machine is delivered
with the soft cover tooling set and can be used directly for pad and soft cover binding. For hard
cover applications, the optional hard cover tooling set is available.

Note: Hard Cover Tooling Set is an optional accessory consisting of the H-type
paper guide and H-type nipping tool.
ADHESIVES
Secura uses hot melt adhesive for binding and works properly only with hot melt type of adhe-
sives. This means that adhesives designed for other purposes, or containing organic ingredients
for instance, cannot be used. The manufacturer recommends Fastbind Hot Melt Type 1, which
has optimal melting point - viscosity combination for Fastbind machines and thus suits for all
binding work done with Secura. Moreover, this adhesive is nontoxic and can be used safely
indoors.
To melt adhesive, adhesive reservoir is electrically heated above 170°C (338 F) and the
temperature controlled with a bi-metal thermostat. To maximize the safety, the system includes
also a thermal fuse to prevent overheating. When the unit is switched on, hot melt in the reservoir
liquefi es and soon after, the applicator has reached working temperature. Now the binding work
can begin.
