HOT MELT APPLICATION
With the table turned over, adhesive applicator can be moved.
9. Run the adhesive applicator along the block spine using the four step method illustrated
above. It gives the highest binding strength and can be recommended for all binding types
shown in this manual.
Please note that as shown in the above illustrations, adhesive is not applied right to the
edge of the block with every pass.
In some cases, a simple one run back and forth along the spine is suffi cient, but most likely
this will not produce as strong a bind as with as with the four step method.
COVER FOLDING AND NIPPING
Immediately after the hot melt application, it is recommended to pull slightly from the cover
to secure the binding between the cover and book. This improves hot melt penetration between
the cover and pages.
10. Turn the table back into the starting position by pulling the hand lever and holding the cover
as shown above. Given that hot melt tacks (starts to dry) in 2 - 3 seconds, swift but gentle
actions provide the best result. Caution: Do not slam the table against the table limit stops
as this can damage the machine
11. Push the hand lever down fi rmly and hold for 5 – 7 seconds to press the spine and fold the
cover. Note: this step has a major infl uence on the fi nal binding strength and should be
completed properly.
