7 Fitting Advice
Spring sets are supplied as matched pairs i.e. the heel and toe spring are designed to work
together. Progression throughout the stance phase should be smooth; the combined heel and
ankle function is key to this process.
If a smooth progression is not achieved, the following should be considered:
Ankle
too soft
Heel Spring
too soft
Heel Spring
too hard
Please contact your supplier if it is not possible to achieve a smooth gait after following the advice above.
Firm
fig 1. Showing Dome removed ready for fitting buffer
Symptoms
• Rapid plantar flexion and
possible foot slap
• Lack of energy return from
heel spring
• Sinking at heel strike
• Difficulty climbing over
the toe
• (toe feels too hard)
• Rapid transition from heel
strike through stance phase
• Difficulty in controlling heel
action,
foot jars into mid-stance
• Foot feels too rigid
Medium
Fit plantar flexion buffer.
A choice of medium and firm buffer
is available (the medium version is
castellated), see figs 1 & 2 below.
For trial purposes the buffer does not
need to be bonded. Final selection
should be bonded in position using
Loctite 424.
1. Move socket anteriorly in relation
to the foot (excess movement may
result in drop off )
2. Fit a stiffer spring set
1. Move socket posteriorly in relation
to foot
2. Fit softer spring set
