Motor - Remove hex head cap screws (22) from the seal
plate (13) to remove the motor from the seal plate (13).
Careful attention must be paid not to misplace the wave
washer (19) from the motor end cover (21).
Rotor/Shaft/Bearing Assembly - remove the lower bear-
ing retaining ring (16) from the seal plate (13), allowing
the rotor/shaft assembly (17) to be removed from the
seal plate (13). Exercise caution not to allow contami-
nants into the upper and lower bearings (15,18) during
disassembly and storage until re-assembly.
IMPORTANT! - All parts must be clean before
reassembly. Handle seal parts with extreme
care. DO NOT damage lapped surfaces.
REASSEMBLY
Capacitors – Assemble start capacitor (23) and run ca-
pacitor (26) to the top of the motor end cover (21)
Rotor/Shaft/Bearing Assembly – Inspect the upper and
lower bearings for contaminants and drag in the bear-
ings. Flush the bearings (15,18) with Isopropyl Alcohol
to remove contaminants, if necessary. If the bearings are
dragging and cannot be flushed clean, replace the Rotor/
Shaft/Bearing assembly before re-assembly. Place the
lower bearing of the assembly in the seal plate (13) and
replace the lower bearing snap ring (16) in to the seal
plate (16), ensuring the snap ring (16) is fully engaged in
the snap ring groove in the seal plate (13).
Motor- Using s small amount of O-Ring lube on the
Wave-Washer (19) place the wave washer into the motor
end cover (21). Assemble the Rotor/Shaft assembly (17)
with the bearings (15,18) into the motor (20). Reassemble
hex head cap screws (22) into the seal plate (13), tighten
the cap screws (22) in an "X" pattern to allow the mo-
tor to seal properly on to the seal plate (13). Be sure the
motor is tightened to the seal plate (13) and the motor is
flush with the mating surface.
Shaft Seal – Do not re-use the seal that was removed
during disassembly (replacement is preferred). Clean the
seal cavity in the seal plate (13) of all debris and contami-
nants prior to seal assembly. Lightly oil the outside of the
stationary seal rubber cup (12) before pressing flush into
the seal cavity in the seal plate (13), using an Ashland

pump authorized seal pressing device. Exercise caution
to assure the seal tool and the seal face are clean prior to
assembly. Ensure the stationary and rotating seal faces
are clean of any debris or contaminants. Lubricate the
bellows in the rotating component of the shaft seal (12)
prior to placing over the shaft, using caution not to cut
or nick the bellows during installation. Press the rotat-
ing component of the shaft seal (12) into place against
the stationary seal face using an authorized Ashland
Pump seal pressing device. Place the rotating spring and
spring holder onto the rotating component of the seal
(12). Install the shaft seal snap ring (11) into the snap
ring groove in the shaft (17), ensuring the snap ring fully
engages into the snap ring groove.
Seal Plate – Zip tie the motor lead connections to be
connected to the power cord connector assembly (47)
in the motor housing, near the power cord connection
end of the leads. Tie a small string behind the zip tie long
enough (15") to be fed through the power cord con-
nection boss during re-assembly. This will assure that all
leads stay together during installation for future connec-
tion to the power cord connector assembly (47). Install a
new O-ring (14) onto the seal plate, lubricate the O-ring
(14) is necessary. Ensure the O-Ring (14) is flat to the
mating surfaces and not rolled or twisted. With the motor
(20) and Rotor/Shaft Assembly (17) already mounted to
the motor, align the seal plate (13) so that the motor wire
connections to the power cord connector assembly (47)
are aligned. The motor housing (41) must be in a vertical
position so that the seal plate (13) and motor are lowered
into the housing (41) and the string for the motor leads
are fed through the power cord connection boss in the
motor housing (41). Mount the seal plate (13) to the Mo-
tor Housing (41) with the 4 hex socket head cap screws
(1), tightening the cap screws (1) in an "X" pattern to
ensure proper correct mounting of the seal plate (13) to
the motor housing (41).
Impeller – Place impeller (10) over the shaft (17), aligning
the keyway in the impeller (10) to the keyway in the shaft
(17)
Shredding Ring (Stationary cutter) – Install the stationary
cutter (8) into the volute (9). Install the stationary cutter
retaining ring (2) and 4 cap screws (1) into the volute,
tightening the cap screws (1) in an "X" pattern to ensure
the retaining ring is tightened flat to the stationary cutter.
Volute – Place the volute (9) onto the seal plate (13).
Install the 4 hex socket head cap screws (40) through the
motor housing (41) and seal plate (13) into the volute (9).
Tighten the hex socket head cap

IMPORTANT ! Do not hammer on the seal
pusher. It will damage the seal face.
