Pre-installation checks
Warning! Please ensure that there is adequate ventilation
to the room in which the stove is to be installed. An air
brick or wall vent with a minimum size of 9" x 3" (230 x
75mm) is needed to supply air to the fire.
Insufficient ventilation may cause oxygen depletion in the
room. This can lead to drowsiness, nausea and sickness
and is extremely dangerous.
It is important to ensure that the chimney or flue system
to which the stove is to be connected is working properly.
Combustion by-products which pervade enclosed spaces
such as a room represent a serious health risk. The chimney
and/or flue system must therefore be inspected and
approved by a qualified professional prior to installation.
Special attention must be paid to the following:
The chimney or flue system must comply with the Building
Regulations for heat producing appliances i.e. a round flue
pipe of minimum diameter 5" (125 mm), a chimney size of
at least 6" (150 mm) diameter, a square brick flue of at
least 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" (135 x 135 mm) or a factory-made system
manufactured to BS4543 and installed to BS6461.
The minimum height of the chimney must be 12' (4m). This
height should be measured from the hearth to the top of
the flue. The chimney or flue must be free from any
obstruction.
