HIGH PRESSURE

Note: The 4 digits on this text in reference to each work-piece correspond with the 4 digits in bold listed
at the end of the manual. XDDDDXXXX
A.- Functioning.
The vice works by simply turning the handle. It has a high pressure spindle with a hydraulic power
booster and does not require any type of external supply.
This vice functions in the opposite direction from the other Arnold vices.
When the handle is turned, the movable jaw opening advances towards the workpiece. When it stops
against the part, continue turning the handle. A "clack" will be heard which indicates that the clutch has
engaged.
At this point the high pressure is produced. When the blued handle reaches its end stop, there is no
point in continuing to turn it as no more pressure will be exerted and this could damage the vice.
To release the workpiece, turn it in the opposite direction until you hear the "clack" sound of the clutch
again.
The power booster unit and clutch unit are located on the rear of the vice, beside the flange.
The high pressure hydraulic spindle is a compact unit, easy to replace if necessary.
B.- Cleaning.
For correct functioning, it is vital that the inside of the vice is kept clean.
To prevent swarf damage, the spindle is protected by a spiral band on the front and another spiral band
on the rear.
For thorough cleaning, remove the spiral band on the rear of the vice by taking out the bolt (1046) joining
it to the spindle. Then remove the movable carriage. To do this, simply take out the bolt (1041), lift up
the carriage carefully and clean the inside without losing the semi-ball inside it. If necessary, when the
semi-ball is put in place again, lubricate it with a layer of grease.
Then remove the four bolts on the flange so that the spindle can be unscrewed and the inside of the
vice body cleaned.
Correct maintenance can only be carried out using good coolant and anti-oxidant substances.
We recommend lubricating the high pressure spindle clutch unit once every six months. To do this,
without removing the spindle from the vice, insert the through bolt (0124) into the handle (8122). This
will free the handle and it can then be taken out towards the rear. The clutch spindle (0123) will then be
visible. Clean any swarf and dirt from it, and grease it. The handle (8122) can then be replaced.
C.- Hydraulic oil filling
In principle this spindle does not require any type of periodical maintenance.
If for any reason you should notice that the spindle is not reaching high pressure, it will need to be
dismantled, cleaned thoroughly and filled with oil.
1. Remove the spindle from the vice. To do this, remove the four bolts on the flange (8014).
2. Then remove the scrapers (8017) and (8016). Remove the seeger ring (8011) and the washers
(8018). The spindle has now been released from the flange.
3. Insert the handle in the corresponding hex key, secure the spindle with the cylindrical part of the tank
(8005) and unscrew the clutch unit from the rest of the spindle.
4. Take out the four disc springs (007). Then push the main spindle (8008) towards the inside of the
tank. When it has been removed, the collars can be replaced.
5. Remove the primary piston (8012) and unscrew the seal cover (4037).
6. To mount the spindle again with new oil seals, begin by placing the collar (8003) at the bottom of the
