1. Important information - read prior to start-up

You have acquired a valuable RIESTER product manufactured in
compliance with Directive 93/42/EEC for medical products and subject to
continuous stringent quality control.
Should you have any queries, please contact the Company or your
RIESTER Agent who will be pleased to assist you. For addresses see
last page of these Operating Instructions. The address of your authorised
RIESTER Agent will be supplied to you on request.
Please also note that correct and safe operation of products will only be
guaranteed when RIESTER products and accessories are used through-
out.

2. Purpose

The "Spirotest" is a newly developed unit allowing lung capacity to be
measured without the use of water, affording a number of advantages over
conventional, commercially available spirometers and thus greatly simplify-
ing application. The unit is very handy and has a wide measuring range
(1000 to 7000 cm
in the field of preventive medicine and can also be used for monitoring
patients' own lung capacity.

3.4. Mouthpiece

4. Start-up and operation

4.1. Connect end of the mouthpiece (3.4.) to nozzle (3.3.).
4.2. Hold spirometer in one hand and check that the needle is set to "0".
4.3. If the needle is not set to "0" correct by rotating the upper outer ring
(3.5.) in clockwise or counterclockwise direction.
4.4. Breathe in deeply and sit up straight. When your lungs are full, insert
mouthpiece (3.4.) between your lips. Then breathe out continously
(within 4 - 5 seconds). This is very important to achieve precise results
4.5. When you have exhaled completely, read precise value (3.2).
4.6. Repeat this procedure 3 times. The maximum value of 3 measure-
ments corresponds to your lung capacity.
