General
The expansion tanks with fixed membrane are produced in compliance with the most essential safety requirements as set forth
in Directive 2014/68/EU laid down by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on 15th May 2014 to align
member state legislation on the subject of pressure equipment.
Applications (fig. 1)
Expansion tanks with fixed membrane mainly consist of a closed vessel preloaded at a certain pressure; inside there is a diaphragm
or a flexible bag that separates the air under pressure from the water. By exploiting the compressibility of the air, the expansion tanks
and the pressure tanks with membrane can accept the water volume increase due to the rising temperature in a closed circuit system
or store the water under pressure in a pressurizing system. The expansion tanks with membrane are designed for installation in
heating and air-conditioning systems.
Technical characteristics
The technical characteristics of the expansion tanks are given on the identification label applied on each single tank; they indicate the
year and month of manufacture, volume in litres, minimum and maximum allowable temperatures (TS), maximum allowable pressure
(PS), fluid 2 group (air or water), preload pressure, class, test pressure (PT). First check that the technical characteristics described
on the label of the expansion tank are compatible with those of the system and that under no circumstances the recommended limits
are exceeded.
Installation instructions
Before installing an expansion, it is absolutely necessary that accurate calculations are made by an authorized technician, in
accordance with the laws in force in the country of installation, to ensure correct sizing. Due to system functioning reasons, if it's
necessary, you can modify the precharge pressure value compared to that indicated on the label. Delete the printed value of supply
and write the new value, even greater, in the suitable space. Any change to the precharge pressure should be done by qualified
personel, under their direct responsability. The installation of an incorrectly sized pressure tank could cause injury to persons and pets
or damage to property and the actual system. Any type of installation, maintenance and checking of pressure systems should only be
carried out by specialized personnel in accordance with the laws in force in the country of installation. Equip the system with a suitable
safety valve set at a pressure no higher than the expansion tank maximum pressure, taking into account the difference in level
between the safety valve and the expansion tank. Install the equipment in an appropriate technical room, which must be provided with
adequate systems to drain and discharge so that any leakage from the equipment will not cause damages to the surrounding area, or
persons and / or property.
Maintenance (fig. 2)
Periodic maintenance is recommended (once a year) and should be carried out by authorized specialized personnel. First check that
the expansion tank is totally drained of water, the system is switched off and no electric parts are live. If it is necessary to reset the
preload pressure, take care that the pressure does not exceed the value indicated on the label.
Recommendations and limitations of use
Prior to installation, check that the appliance is intact and check that the precharge pressure matches that specified on the label.
Under no circumstances drill, heat with a flame or open the expansion tank. Do not exceed the maximum working temperature or the
maximum allowable pressure. Do not use the expansion tank for any other purpose than that described for its end use and indicated
by the data on the label, the contents of which may under no circumstances be removed or altered. Check that the system is directly
connected to an earth device in order to avoid corrosion due to electrolysis. Properly secure equipment and use anti-vibration systems
to avoid damage or breaking resulting from repeated vibrations or excessive loads. In the design phase the following external stress
has not been considered: stress due to snow, earthquake, traffic, fire; these should be taken into consideration in the installation
phase. Install the unit in a sheltered place. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for injury to persons or damage to property
caused by incorrect transport or handling of the product, improper use or installation that is incorrect or not in compliance with the
manufacturer's instructions.

Allgemeines
